Labradors carry things in their mouths because they have strong natural retrieving instincts. Bred as hunting dogs, they were trained to
gently fetch, but not damage game , such as ducks. This instinct leads them to love holding and carrying objects, whether it’s a toy, a stick, or an interesting discovery in the park. It’s part of what makes them playful and eager to please. Carrying things also helps them explore their world and stay mentally engaged.
