My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Name: Pumpkin

DOB: 9/23/2015

Weight: 7 lbs

Adoption Fee: 375.00

Meet Pumpkin!  Pumpkin has so much personality it can barely be contained by his 7lb body!  If you want a dog with tons of playful energy, he's your guy.  He loves to fetch his favorite toys so much, he'll often throw it for himself to chase. He loves long walks and can keep up easily; he'd be a great adventure dog for hikes and other outdoor activities.  He's very athletic, and might even enjoy some agility training!  When he's burned off his ample energy, he loves to demand affection and snuggle on the couch. He sleeps very well in his crate.  He loves other dogs!  Dog-savvy cats would probably be fine, though he does have some terrier prey-drive in him.

All this personality comes with a few quirks that you should be aware of.  He's got a little bit of stranger danger, so while he might not warm up immediately, once he trusts you he's so energetic.  He's a bit mouthy when he plays, and can startle easily, and might nip in fear if approached too quickly, so no small children for him.  He still is marking some so he wears a belly band in the foster home, but does well going potty outside on a schedule.  He will bark some, so he might not be the best apartment dog

All that being said, if you're willing to work with his minor faults, you will be repaid with endless love.   He's a truly awesome little dude that will provide lifelong entertainment and adoration.

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.

Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!

All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).

More about this rescue

Mission Statement
Ruff Start Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals. We also collaborate, communicate, and educate about the importance of animal rescue and welfare.

Vision Statement
We strive for a world where every companion animal has a safe and loving forever home.

Who We Are & How We Do It
We are a foster home-based Non-Profit 501c3, No-Kill dog and cat rescue based in Central Minnesota. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other critters. We work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

We operate largely through volunteers and donations, relying on social media to stay connected. The more than 600 volunteers working with the rescue transport animals, serve as foster families, coordinate adoptions and much more. Without them and their countless hours of service, Ruff Start Rescue could not exist.

Foster-based by Choice
We do not have a shelter. We believe a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. We rely exclusively on volunteers to provide foster homes for rescued pets until they find their forever homes.

We Can't Take Every Animal
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal when we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live in while they await their forever home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs and cats out there that need help. We promise to do our very best to help find every pet his or her forever home.
