My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oda
I am a female CHIHUAHUA/ WHIPPET MIX with tan and white short fur, perky ears, and natural tail. I was a stray that a group of church members kept trying to get me so I would be safe. They kept me fed and gave me fresh water. I finally allowed myself to be “caught” and now I am a Morris Mutt. I am housetrained, excellent on walks please use harness and leash not collar to walk. I am totally vetted and ready for a home. I can be adopted NOW> DOB 8/13/17 10.7 lbs I am very guarded with new people until I am sure they will not hurt me. We have discovered she is very afraid of kids under the age of 14…to the point I think she had been very hurt by kids prior to us getting this sweet girl.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

After meeting and bonding with the dog, an adoption application is completed.
Two major requirements: Monthly preventatives MUST be continued EVERY month year round to prevent heartworms
(caused by mosquito bites) and flea / tick topicals to prevent diseases caused by the parasites. Second requirement: that you continue to spoil the fur baby as much as we already have them spoiled!
Adoption fee $175.00 EVERY dog is current on vaccines, has been tested for heartworms, flea/tick diseases (treated if necessary), have been spay/neutered, and has an ID chip PRIOR to being presented for adoption. Hours of operation 7 days a week 9-4:30.
If you have a dog in the home and looking for a companion, please bring your dog to the Safe House to be sure there are NO issues between the two fur babies. We do not want you to get home and have a problem with either dog.

More about this rescue

Morris Safe House is a "NO KILL" facility for dogs! The Safe House is a 501C3, non-profit organization, founded in May, 2008. To insure the health and safety of the dogs, a state of the arc facility was constructed on donated acreage. The facility features a climate controlled interior with 6X8 foot kennels that open through a doggy door into a covered identical outdoor area. All floors are concrete and each little resident has his own bed.
During the first three years over 1300 dogs has been rescued with an adoption rate of 97%. Our adoption rate is high because before any dog is presented for adoption, all measures are taken to give each the best possible chance for a long healthy life in a loving, safe, forever home.
Volunteers are a vital part of our Safe House. Volunteer opportunties are endless because of our hours 7 days a week 9-4:30. Walking dogs or playing with dogs in our fenced play areas offers a nice break from the hetic pace of daily routines. The dogs LOVE new faces to interact with. No group is too small or too large to visit the Safe House.
We are a favorite of youth groups.
