My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Monet | 2 years old | 35lbs | Fostered in Etobicoke

Have you ever met a dog as happy as Monet? She is always happy and playful. She LOVES life and her favourite things to do include walks, playing with her toys and chasing her tail and shadow.

Monet was born in the Dominican Republic. She is albino and has microphthalmia (her eyes didn’t develop properly and she is half deaf). She is looking for a family who knows that she is not going to let this stop her from living her best life! To her, life is an adventure and she can’t wait to explore the world, even rushing her foster mum to put her jacket on quicker! Although she doesn’t climb into the car on her own, she will happy be carried into the car. Once the car is moving, she is very calm, often taking a power nap until you get to where you are going.

Monet currently goes to work with her foster Mum (who works at an animal hospital) where she gets to be around other dogs all the time. She does well with dogs of all sizes but has not been tested with cats. When things get busy, she is crated and quickly falls asleep, showing no signs of anxiety at being left alone. In fact, she loves her crate, sometimes taking a toy into it for some quiet playtime during the day. At night, she voluntarily goes to her crate and settles in for the night.

Monet thrives with routine. She currently gets 4 walks a day, with the first and last walks of the day being the longest and the two middle ones being mostly bathroom breaks. Before her foster parents leave for a few hours, she is taken for a 20-30 minute walk but she usually does her business within the first 10 minutes! She then settles happily in her crate for a nap, waking up immediately when the crate door is opened to shower her foster mum with kisses!

Since Monet can only see shadows, she gets nervous around dark coloured objects such as cars or people with black jackets. She won’t bark or attack them, but will freeze for a few seconds and then will continue to walk.

She is always happy to meet new people, starting off shy and quickly warming up to them, getting comfortable after just a few minutes. She has not been tested with infants and toddlers, however has met older children and gets along well with them. When it comes to meeting new dogs (in her space), she can get jealous at first. She will sometimes growl in warning. However, after a few hours, she will either become friends with them or just leave them alone.

Some of the things on Monet's wish list for her forever home:
- Patient Humans who understand it may take some time and creativity to help her understand what is expected of her
- Toys
- Someone who loves going for walks and is looking for a partner for their adventures
- A fully fenced back yard so she can play to her heart’s content
- Toys
- Lots of love and cuddles
- Did we mention toys? Monet said that was very important!

Monet has been spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.
