My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chewy is a wonderful male Spaniel mix and is approximately 1 1/2 years old and weighs 14 lbs. He is good with the other dogs, but prefers to be around his people. He enjoys his walks and is easy on his leash and is very well behaved. Chewy is very alert and smart and will pick up on basic commands quickly. He will need some house breaking training in his new home, but seems to understand that he is to do his business outside. He enjoys exploring the yard with you but he wants to be near you. Chewy craves getting loved on and loves any attention that you can give him. He prefers to sleep in the room with you; he does very well in his dog bed on the floor where he can see you. He seldom barks and would be a perfect companion for your family. Chewy doesn’t mind having children in his new home but would do best if they are older than 5 years of age. Chewy is ready to meet his new family and will be ready for adoption after he gets neutered on March 16th, but he is ready to foster to adopt, will that be you?

SECURE FENCING REQUIRED FOR ALL OF OUR RESCUED DOGS.

For more information call (925) 473-4642.

If you are considering adopting a dog through HALO Here are some helpful hints:

Bring pictures of your yard to show secure fencing. Most of our dogs require a 6 foot fenced yard. Yards must be cleared of any fox tail weeds. The adoption donation is cash or check.

We will adopt out to Contra Costa County residences only so that we may follow up on the dogs well-being to make sure that they are happy and thriving.

We do adopt small dogs to apartments or condo and need to see pictures of the patio or balcony area. If you rent, please bring copy of your lease to show you can have pets and any size restrictions.

We do not adopt to homes with children under the age of five (5) unless we know the history of the dog with young children. All Children MUST be present at adoption. If you own a dog and are looking for a friend please bring your dog with you so that they can be introduced to make sure that they will get along.

More about this rescue

H.A.L.O. is the East Contra Costa County Homeless Animals' Lifeline Organization, better known as H.A.L.O. We are a nonprofit, all volunteer, 501c(3) charitable organization who assists dogs, cats and their owners in Eastern Contra Costa County.
We rescue approximatly 500 animals a year, all by volunteers, all in our homes and in our hearts.
We are not a shelter,
We have grant funds for the spaying and neutering of East County ferals and food for them if needed.
We have a program called "Angel Ears" where certified dogs and their trainers go to the local libraries and the children read to the dogs. This has proven a very effective way to increase reading skills rapidly. We also take the dogs to senior facilities.
We are in need of volunteer in many capacities.
