My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We do not adopt dogs just from phone calls or emails. Please do not fill in adoption forms anywhere else, but on OUR web site. Thanks for that.

To start our adoption process, please fill out our form on our web site at: www.spokanewienerdogs.org and see the Adopt a Dog/Fee page with more details on how we adopt our dogs. There are a lot of questions answered on our web site and personality details below about each dog BELOW so please READ BEFORE getting in touch. We already answer 500+ emails a day. We do answer questions on dogs once our adoption paperwork is filled in so we can match to the right homes.

Please indicate which dog you are interested in on our adoption form. If their name says "pending home" then they are not available and are on a test drive with a new family. We do remove our dogs when our adoptions are final so please do not ask us if dogs are available if you see their ads.

There is an adoption fee of $250 for this dog.

Fluffy came from a senior's home who was going senile. He came into us with a lot of fear but we are working with him until placed.

We prefer a home with another small dog who is mentally healthy to help Pop Fluffy out of his fear mode.

We were told he was part dachshund when he came and he is more part terrier. This is a small medium sized dog whose head comes up to my knee. He came in fat but is now on a diet and will finish around 20 pounds or so.

He is great with other dogs but people are still scary. That fear and separation anxiety can be retrained when he is basically a sweet dog once he knows someone.

He is slowly settling in here but he will need an experienced adopter who knows he might take a year or two of work in his new life. If you do not have that kind of time and patience than this is not your dog.

Go meet their pets

Visitors by appointment only and closed on Mondays. We are only open at 10 am daily for any visitors or volunteers with an appointment in advance. Sorry, usually no afternoon or evening times when we have other jobs besides this rescue. Later times might be arranged if we have no other commitments.

We will take wiener mixes on a case-by-case basis. We usually do take any purebred dachshund or wiener dogs needing a home at any time in the Pacific Northwest. Please call if this is an emergency placement ONLY. Please call our home phone at 509-796-2140 but please do not call this number to adopt one. This is a message phone only and we check it once a day. It might be a day or two before we have time to return phone calls.

Please read our web site for adoption information, on the To Adopt page at http://www.spokanewienerdogs.org For those without a computer leave a message at the phone number message phone above.

Our dog rescue is located on a farm northwest of Spokane. We are licensed and inspected rescue with the county. Our license is displayed for all visitors.

We have now 3,000 visitors each year to this dog rescue thanks to social media and all our volunteers plus folks who come to adopt and several open houses here each year.

Volunteers are always welcome with appointments in advance so please see our main web site for more details: www.spokanewienerdogs.org

More about this rescue

We were Dachshund breeders for 25 years until we started our rescue in 1991. All our dogs are personality guaranteed, we do test drives and take them back if not working out. They are all fixed, up to date on shots and worming, pretrained and we do warn folks about any personality glitches we find so they know what they are adopting from us.

We have adopted or help to adopt over 1,800+ dogs since 1991. We place on average 150+ dogs each year and placed 157 dogs in 2016 alone, a new record for us. But we turn away around 500+ each year so we do what we can to help the pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering all our adoptable pets before placement.

Please read our web site for our adoption contract, waiting list form and adoption policies before getting in touch. We are already answering 500+ emails a day with this rescue. Thank you.

Our dog rescue is located at the director's farm northwest of Spokane. There is no bus service here. Directions are given once an appointment is made in advance and once our pre-adoption paperwork is filled in so we can match dogs to their new families.
