Our adoption process takes about an hour as you get acquainted with the animals and find the perfect match.

Our adoption agreement requires you to follow basic laws regarding pets on Kauai and asks simple questions to help you determine if you are ready for a new pet in your life. We do prohibit adopting dogs to be used for pig hunting.

We want to be the first place on Kauai people think to go if they are considering a new pet for their family and are always open to suggestions and comments to provide the best adoption services possible.

More about this shelter

The Kauai Humane Society was established by the community in 1952 as a local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to protect Kauai’s animals. We opened our new home on Grove Farm property just west of Lihue in 2001 thanks to the generous support of many individuals, families, businesses and foundations. We are an independent animal welfare organization and not a chapter of any mainland or Hawaii group.

We are the only animal care resource center on Kauai where all animals are welcomed, rescued, protected and sheltered every day, all day.
