My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nellie is a sweet but timid kitty who has been living with her foster home for three years now. She's come a long way since she came to BARS as a pregnant stray cat! Although easily spooked, she loves to chase the laser pointer, play with string, get pets from her foster mom, and snuggle with other kitties. Nellie is continuously learning how to trust people, but she will curl up by her foster mom's feet and is always hanging out in the main room, scoping out the situation and looking for a reflection to chase. She's truly a special cat and has been very low maintenance in her foster home! She would do well in a home with no dogs, children who are good with cats, and needs another kitty friend to show her the ropes.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All adoptions begin with an adoption application, available here or on our website (or from one of our wonderful volunteers in person). The application is reviewed by the adoptable animal's foster home as well as by the appropriate coordinator (canine/feline/small animal) to assess how the animal will fit in your home. We endeavour to respond to all applications within 48 hours, but being 100% run by volunteers sometimes we need additional time--if you haven't heard back after 48 hours, feel free to contact us to check in on your application.

All dogs and puppies have an adoption fee of $300, kittens under 6 months of age have an adoption fee of $250, and cats over 6 months of age have an adoption fee of $200, unless otherwise noted. Adoption fees help offset the cost to our organization of providing full medical care (including spay or neuter surgery) to each animal we adopt to a furever home.

More about this rescue

The Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (B.A.R.S.) was established in January 2010, and is dedicated to ensuring the humane treatment of all animals in the Town of Barrhead, the County of Barrhead and surrounding areas.

We provide a safe and nurturing environment for unwanted, abandoned, lost, and mistreated pets until they can be placed into loving homes. Through proactive intervention, public education, fundraising events, and community outreach, the Barrhead Animal Rescue Society seeks to promote respect for all life by breaking the cycle of abuse, neglect, and pet overpopulation in our communities.

The Barrhead Animal Rescue Society is supported through private contributions.
