Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Sofia, a 9-month-old shepherd mix with a playful spirit and plenty of charm! This energetic girl is always ready for a good time, whether it's chasing toys, romping with other pups, or just letting her goofy side shine. After she's had her exercise, though, Sofia loves to settle down for some cozy cuddle time and will happily enjoy all the pets you can give.
Sofia is crate trained and mostly house trained, especially when kept on a regular schedule. She's still a puppy at heart, so she can get a bit mouthy when she's excited, but she's very food motivated and should respond well to training. Because of her enthusiasm, we recommend a home with kids 12 and up. Sofia loves other dogs and would be thrilled to have playmates, though she sometimes gets frustrated if she sees dogs but can't join in the fun.
We're not sure how she does with cats, but if you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion, Sofia could be just the one for you!
If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways:
Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt.
**the below two methods are slower than visiting us**
Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours.
All adult dog adoption fees include;
-spay/neuter
-rabies and kennel cough vaccinations
- heartworm test
-current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian)
-microchip implanted & registered to adopter
-treatment of fleas & ticks
-veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin
-free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians
Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
