My name is Lotus and I am a beautiful adult female Shiba Inu who is sweet but extremely shy. I have not been with my foster mom very long, so we are still getting to know each other. I have not had experience with little people or doggies that are bigger than I am, so I don’t know if I’d like them. I am working very hard on potty training. I’m sure if I could get on a good solid schedule, I would learn it quickly, but for now it’s still a work in progress. I am always respectful of those purring things and I am crate trained. Those leash things kind of scare me and my body freezes whenever my foster mom puts one on me, so a fenced yard is sort of a must for me especially when you consider that I am a Shiba and we do tend to bolt. As I stated earlier, I have not been with my foster mom long, so she doesn’t yet know much about my likes and dislikes, so I will take a moment to fill you in on a couple typical Shiba traits then once my foster mom and I get to know each other better, she can tell you whether I’m pretty typical or not. One thing she does know about me is that I rarely bark and that IS typical of a Shiba. We Shiba Inu’s were bred to hunt, so we have high prey drives and can really never be trusted off leash, so fenced yards and leashes are the only way to ensure our safety. As for training, I will admit that we are smart and stubborn, we will do what you ask of us, but it has to be our idea and on our time. My foster mom says that I am a “very sweet girl” and I agree with her, now all I need is to find my furever home with someone who is very patient and will shower me with unconditional love. Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.
