Welcome Jax. He is 3.5-year-old Basenji / Chow. He has a Chow Personality. He is an independent dog and very comfortable entertaining himself. He is about 75 pounds and will make a nice companion on walks, hikes or runs. He loves his kennel and keeps it clean. He was in a home prior to coming to us and was potty trained. He needs to be with a man or a couple without kids. There must have been some rough handling in his past with his collar so he is very particular about how his collar is handled and likes you to handle it slowly. Brisk movements around his collar from behind him surprising him make him be defensive. He is very food motivated so all you need to do is show him a treat and he will do what you are asking. He has nice long legs and a very bushy and full coat so he would be perfect in the more northern climates. He would be great for a couple who want a companion dog make them feel safer. He is not a big barker but very inquisitive and observant. He loves being in the yard and doesn’t try to climb or dig in the yards we have. He is currently in Texas waiting for his forever home. His adoption fee is 180 and transport is 185. He is a wonderful dog and with the right family will make a nice companion. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. BEN IS STILL SEARCHING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME AT RESCUE RIDGE. Here is an update from his foster mom: "He walks twice a day. Does not pull so have not used that gentle lead thing that they wrapped around his nose. He eats dry food but I add a few tasty morsels. We have taken him to pet stores and he sees other dogs but is not interested. One got in his face and he looked annoyed but no aggression. H e barks outside on occasion sleeps on the couch during the day and snuggles between us in bed at night. Overall he is perfect. He does need a lot of exercise but that’s usually a plus I’m teaching him things a dog should know like fetch and lay down. He’s so smart. Has a purple tongue. I think he’s a Basenji/ Chow mix. But he’s perfect. Just an update if someone’s looking for a great dog. So Ben says Hi. He is actually the funniest dog I have ever had. When he wants something he talks to you and if you don’t do what he wants he grabs your blanket and tries to remove it. What a fun guy." Loves people and gets excited when he meets someone new. All your friends will feel special. Ok with other dogs but just not the playing type. Better with older children.
