Please contact JoEllen (sagdinfo@aol.com) for more information about this pet. Please apply online at http://texasgreatdane.org/adoption-application/ ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX. Prospective adopters must be able to travel to San Antonio to complete the adoption process. ** Caliope is a 2-year-old Basenji blend who weighs 13.2 pounds. She is a friendly girl and would make a delightful companion. Caliope was one of 270 dogs seized from a horrific hoarding case that made national news. The dogs were imprisoned in filthy crates in a hot warehouse where they suffered from extreme neglect, parasitic infestations, dehydration, and malnourishment. After receiving intensive veterinarian care to include a dental prophylaxis and a quality diet, Caliope is now a healthy girl! Since the dogs from this cruelty case experienced various degrees of trauma, adopters should be prepared to exercise patience as their new dog adjusts to a home environment. These dogs may initially present a high escape risk - adopters must utilize extreme caution when opening outside doors or traveling in a car. The dogs must never be left outside unattended. All the dogs from this cruelty case received a SNAP 4DX which tests for anaplasmosis, ehrlichia, heartworms, and lyme disease; however, there are multiple tick-borne diseases so please advise your veterinarian that your dog may have been exposed to ticks in the warehouse environment. You can read about the seizure here: https://time.com/5685811/texas-missouri-animal-rescue-operators-charged-cruelty/ Please understand you are commiting to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more.) You must be committed to age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization. Her adoption fee is $200. This includes her spay surgery, DhPPv vaccination, rabies vaccination, deworming, heartworm prevention, microchip, leash and collar, and 30-days of pet health insurance. Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at www.saspca.org. Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio TX 78232. Event hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Additional questions may be directed to sagdinfo@aol.com. ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX.
