Please contact JoEllen (sagdinfo@aol.com) for more information about this pet. Please apply online at http://texasgreatdane.org/adoption-application/     ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX.  Prospective adopters must be able to travel to San Antonio to complete the adoption process. ** Caliope is a 2-year-old Basenji blend who weighs 13.2 pounds. She is a friendly girl and would make a delightful companion.   Caliope was one of 270 dogs seized from a horrific hoarding case that made national news.  The dogs were imprisoned in filthy crates in a hot warehouse where they suffered from extreme neglect, parasitic infestations, dehydration, and malnourishment. After receiving intensive veterinarian care to include a dental prophylaxis and a quality diet, Caliope is now a healthy girl!   Since the dogs from this cruelty case experienced various degrees of trauma, adopters should be prepared to exercise patience as their new dog adjusts to a home environment.    These dogs may initially present a high escape risk - adopters must utilize extreme caution when opening outside doors or traveling in a car.  The dogs must never be left outside unattended.   All the dogs from this cruelty case received a SNAP 4DX which tests for anaplasmosis, ehrlichia, heartworms, and lyme disease; however, there are multiple tick-borne diseases so please advise your veterinarian that your dog may have been exposed to ticks in the warehouse environment. You can read about the seizure here: https://time.com/5685811/texas-missouri-animal-rescue-operators-charged-cruelty/ Please understand you are commiting to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more.) You must be committed to age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization.   Her adoption fee is $200.  This includes her spay surgery, DhPPv vaccination, rabies vaccination, deworming, heartworm prevention, microchip, leash and collar, and 30-days of pet health insurance.   Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at www.saspca.org.   Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio TX 78232.  Event hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.    Additional questions may be directed to sagdinfo@aol.com.   ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX.  Prospective adopters must be able to travel to San Antonio to complete the adoption process. **   - IMPORTANT INFORMATION -   SASPCA Homeward Bound Dog Rescue and San Antonio Great Dane Rescue are 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue groups based in San Antonio, Texas.    Our group focuses on assisting open admission shelters in South Texas where over 32,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year.   Our puppies and dogs are completely vetted and live in foster homes. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and tested for heartworm disease. All adoptions include one month of flea and heartworm preventative, leash and collar, and a 30-day trial of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. Adopters will also receive a Petco Pet Parent Savings Books that contain:• $100s in savings plus a coupon for a free 6 lb. bag of WholeHearted dog food.• Thoughtful care tips.• Online resources and support.     Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX 78232.  Event hours are typically 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.     We also host additional adoption events throughout the year.  Please visit our Facebook pages for the most current event schedules.   https://m.facebook.com/HomewardBoundDogRescue/?tsid=0.11494693985281179&source=typeahead   https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=185497084826453&tsid=0.7626298417270982&source=typeahead     If your adoption application is approved and you are traveling from out-of-town, we hold your chosen pet for one hour past the event start time to allow for travel time.   We do try to schedule bi-monthly meet-and-greets in Austin as interested is generated.     We are an all-volunteer organization and do not currently have the resources to process out-of-state adoptions.     Our puppies, purebred dogs, and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so we encourage interested parties to apply online.   Please apply here:   http://texasgreatdane.org/adoption-application/

Story
Welcome Jax. He is 3.5-year-old Basenji / Chow. He has a Chow Personality. He is an independent dog and very comfortable entertaining himself. He is about 75 pounds and will make a nice companion on walks, hikes or runs. He loves his kennel and keeps it clean. He was in a home prior to coming to us and was potty trained. He needs to be with a man or a couple without kids. There must have been some rough handling in his past with his collar so he is very particular about how his collar is handled and likes you to handle it slowly. Brisk movements around his collar from behind him surprising him make him be defensive. He is very food motivated so all you need to do is show him a treat and he will do what you are asking. He has nice long legs and a very bushy and full coat so he would be perfect in the more northern climates. He would be great for a couple who want a companion dog make them feel safer. He is not a big barker but very inquisitive and observant. He loves being in the yard and doesn’t try to climb or dig in the yards we have. He is currently in Texas waiting for his forever home. His adoption fee is 180 and transport is 185. He is a wonderful dog and with the right family will make a nice companion. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to maudreyh@aol.com for an application. See his cute video too.

Story
This sweet little girl was found at the Texas Transportation Museum off of Wetmore road. She's a bit skidish at first but warms up to you a bit. She gets scared by sudden movements and she needs a good home. She's definitely underweight and you can see her ribs. I don't know what her name actually is but I've been calling her Mama because you can tell she's had puppies before. And I sadly can't keep her because I already have 2 dogs of my own that don't get along with other dogs.

Story
Bones can be very loving, but takes a long time to grow comfortable with new people. We have had him for 7 years and love him dearly. We have a four year old, who bones is not fond of. We have tried on several occasions to bring the two together, but Bones has reacted aggressively towards our son. For our son's safety, we regrettably have to rehome Bones. Bones does not do well with children. Her has always done well with cats and has grown to love our aussie. He is an excellent guard dog.

Story
We took in this beautiful girl when she was a puppy because the owner was not taking care of her. She has been with my wife and I for about 5 years. She is house broken and is an inside dog. She is afraid of fireworks, thunderstorms, and lawn mowers. She loves to sit on the couch next to you and watch TV or snuggle with you for an afternoon nap. We are no longer able to keep her because one of our other dogs, who is much smaller than Bella, has growing medical concerns that is taking up a lot of our attention and time. Bella is not aggressive but does not like it when she has to fight for your attention. Bella would be best in a home as the only dog or with dogs of similar size. She has been great with kids and has never bitten or snapped at anyone. She does not mind having her nails trimmed or ears cleaned. During her shedding seasons she enjoys being vacuumed (believe it or not). She is a great dog and I would love to see her go to a loving home with a loving and attentive family.

Story
My boyfriend found him outside our apartment complex. No microchip, no collar, not neutered & had worms. So he was definitely abandoned. No one has claimed him. He is so sweet & fun. He gets along well with our male dog, good on a leash, good in his crate. I’m going to get him up to date with all needed preventatives such as heart worm preventative, flea & tick preventative, dewormer, dappv vaccine, & bordatella vaccine. The only thing he would need is to be neutered & have his rabies vaccines. Such a sweet boy & deserves a loving home.
