Story
I am Messi. I am from Arkansas. From the foster: Messi is very sweet and very smart! It's been a pleasure to work with her this past week. She's learned not to be afraid of cars, to walk on a leash in the city, to chase a ball, to ride in the car and stay in her seat, to go to the dog park (and to leave willingly), and so much more. She came to me extremely sheltered, but her curiosity and smarts have really led her start enjoying the world. She's still a puppy and has yet to learn how to potty outside. She's crate and pad trained, and working on going outside - we've had a few triumphs at the dog park! She's very quiet, a little submissive and unsure about a lot of things - but loving and playful. She LOVES people and other dogs, and would do best with another dog friend, and a fenced yard to show to her how it's done. She's a pleasure to be around! Messi needs firm, consistent direction and communication - she responds really quickly to this. Once she gets the basics down, she could really excel in the tricks department. When she knows what to do, she really listens, and responds quickly. She also LOVES other dogs, she's very playful, and loves to run at the High Bridge dog park, in Saint Paul. Having another dog and a fenced yard will go a long way in getting her away from the potty pads.

Hi! My name is Broski and I am from Kentucky. From his foster: Broski is a playful and social pup who loves everyone! He's very affectionate and the cutest snuggler. Be prepared for him to take over your lap! He also enjoys playing with other dogs and does great with cats. He needs more work with crate training and basic commands, but he's catching on quickly. He knows "sit" and is always happy to come when you call him! He'll be the best buddy to everyone in his forever home.

If you are interested in JOEY or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to kappy.woofriver@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. JOEY is one of the calmest, kindest souls we have ever had in our program. He is intelligent, compassionate and affectionate. He is very attentive and is beyond content sitting at your feet and looking endlessly lovingly into your eyes while you pet him. He is a laid back kind of fellow who enjoys tranquil walks around the neighborhood or relaxing days cuddling on the couch. In fact, his favorite thing is being curled up near his foster mom while being loved on and getting his ears rubbed. He wants to go anywhere you do and is a precious waggy-tailed shadow. When he is not with his foster mom, he can usually be found on one of his two dog beds, curled up and dreaming peacefully. He is funny about the dog beds and a lot of times paws at them for a while to get them in just the right position, which sometimes is upside down. He also enjoys sunbathing outside on a nice day and squints at the sun with his nose in the air to sniff the breeze. He is immediately personable with everyone he meets. He will trot right up to a new person and sit in front of them for some rubbins. He never gets too excited, so he provides a calm and sweet reception for visitors. He is also very fond of dogs, but doesn’t really get wild with his play. He follows along with the dogs he shares a foster home with and is very social. JOEY is wonderful with kitties and even makes ones wary of dogs comfortable. He currently shares his foster home with a puppy, a senior dog and 2 cats. This guy is one of those rare gentle souls that only some people are lucky enough to meet in their lifetime. He is the perfect dog to accompany you to all your favorite places. He has impeccable manners, is infinitely patient and never jumps up on anyone. Basically, he is always a delight to be around. He is a dream on a leash and calmly walks with you without pulling. He is loyal as the day is long and incredibly eager to please. Unlike most beagles, this guy rarely makes a peep, but when he does, his little scratchy beagle howl is super cute and is definitely a muffled version. It’s a tiny, polite hello to his four-legged friends in the neighborhood. He is a perfect gentleman in the house, has never had an accident and is so trustworthy that his foster mom leaves him free in the house when she is not home. JOEY is a true gem who will make his forever family’s dreams come true. To see even more pictures of JOEY copy and paste the following link into your browser: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q0d5tbcqxf0n8tu/AAAd_dcu1jVwo4zRlNSvWURXa?dl=0 JOEY is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations including 2 rounds of both the H3N2 and H3N8 canine influenza vaccinations. His $490 adoption fee includes his interstate health certificate and the cost of transport to the Midwest after he is officially adopted. For an adoption application on JOEY click here Please email the completed application to kappy.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Alpha Dog Pet Transport for our Nashville, Knoxville and some New England adoptions (https://alphadogtransport.com). We also use Pet Express Tupelo (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com/). For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport (https://www.facebook.com/roadhomepettransport). Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Rigby is a beagle mix male born late August 2011. He is crate and potty trained. Rigby knows how to sit, shake and lay very well, but it did take time for him to realize that his foster mom is in charge. Rigby is very curious and loves living in the city. He goes on lots of walks. He needs time to warm up to you and time to know he is safe with you. He can be a little bit picky about who his friends are. He has done very well with most dogs, but it is important that introductions are done correctly. He does not share living space with another animal and has not been around many children. Rigby is not fan of unexpected touches and will let you know right away if he doesn't like someone. He is so sweet; when he first came to his foster home, he would only sleep on the floor by the bed and wouldn't let his foster mom pick him up.  With time, trust and love, he and his foster mom now dance together and sleep right next to each other! &#226&#128&#139Note from the foster mom:   Rigby does have some resource guarding and is looking for someone who has time and patience to work with him. I have learned the two most important things living with Rigby is my leadership role. You need to take time to show him you are the leader and he can look up to you. Things I have done to help with that are random sit/stays during our walks. The second thing that is very important is trust building. The more trusting Rigby has become of me, the better he behaves and listens. Something I do for that and also the resource guarding is a game called the “name game”  while he is playing with a “valuable toy” I will reward him with small treats, but make him get up and leave his toy. This teaches him that he can trust me and that I won’t take his toys away when he leaves them “unprotected”. We are also spending time learning how to make friends the most comfortable way for Rigby, that includes one dog at a time with a slow introduction. An ideal home for Rigby would have a fenced in yard with no small children. Also at least one long walk a day seems to help keep him happy. When he is not wagging his butt out of happiness you can usually find him sleeping.  He is a great dog and will the make the right loving, patient person an incredible companion.  If you think it may be you and your home, please fill out an application to arrange a meeting  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application.  Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet!  A home visit is required prior to adoption.  Thank you for choosing to adopt! Breed and temperament determination:  Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue attempts to determine breed and temperament using a combination of looks, information provided to us at intake, and our experience with the animal while in our Rescue.  We do not guarantee this determination.

Age: estimated DOB: 5/26/2025 Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes Adoption fee: TBD Mac – The Little Pup with the Giant Heart ❤️🐾 "He may not have all the time in the world, but he’ll fill every moment with all the love in his heart — and it’s a big one." At just 10 weeks old, purebred beagle baby McKinley (Mac) is already a master at living life to the fullest. He’s a bundle of sweetness, a dash of sass, and a whole lot of goofy charm rolled into one tiny body. He loves belly rubs, puppy playtime, learning new things, and making every person he meets feel like they’re his new best friend. He’s smart, curious, endlessly joyful — and has no idea his heart is different. Some hearts beat differently — and Mac’s beats only for love. He has a Grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur due to an untreatable congenital defect, which means his lifespan may be shorter than most dogs. But Mac isn’t counting the days — he’s making the days count. He’s here to remind us that every moment is a gift, that joy can be found in the smallest things, and that love isn’t measured in years but in the depth of the connection we share. Mac is looking for a very special forever family — someone who will cherish his zest for life, honor his needs, and walk alongside him on whatever journey lies ahead. In return, he’ll fill your heart (and your home) with laughter, snuggles, and the kind of love that changes you forever. "Mac’s secret to happiness? Love like there’s no tomorrow… because every today matters." 🐾✨

Story
Age: approximately 2 years Weight: 34lbs Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly: unknown Kid friendly: unknown Potty trained: yes, on a schedule Crate trained: yes, okay in a crate ***Another dog required in home*** Hi, I’m Meredith. Affectionately called Scaredy-Mere or Mere-Bear. From my nicknames, you might’ve already guessed that I am still fearful of strangers, but I am also a bit of a cuddle bug. It doesn’t take too long for me to open up, though! After some TLC and patience for a day or so, I’ll let you know when I’m ready. If you give me a chance, I might even come right up to you, with my cold, wet nose almost touching your face, and look right at you as I gently lean in for pets. This is my way of letting you know I’m open to trust, and hoping you’ll just give me some love in return. Once we get to know each other, I might even give you a kiss! I am perfectly sized at around 35-40lbs, but I am probably smaller than you’d expect from my description and pictures. My foster thinks I might be a red hound mixed with a corgi, and maybe even some sausage dog. I have a beautiful ginger coat, golden-orange eyes that match, floppy ears, and short legs for my torso (or a long torso for my legs)-kind of like a corgi with a hound body. Definitely compact through the mid and very sturdy… Yes-I am as cute as I sound, and even sweeter! At night, I like to cuddle. I’ll come right to the head of the bed and lay on your pillows with you. I won’t go anywhere if you give me pets and don’t move around too much. If the bed gets too crowded, I’ll go to the floor and find a small space (like a crate or under the bed) to hide out until morning. I could easily be crate trained, and settle when I am in, but I am such a good girl that I get to roam free! I never have accidents, and prefer napping over snooping (unless there’s food in the dog bowls-in that case, I lick them clean). When I’m outside, I do have a prey drive and love to catch a new scent (this is why they’re thinking hound), but can easily be redirected and never resist going back inside. I’m great on leash and you honestly probably wouldn’t guess how scared of people I am if you saw me walking by on the street. I act very normal-even if there are loud sounds and changes in the environment (like snow). I still show interest in others dogs when they’re being walked by their humans. I even seem to be okay when people are walking in my general direction and around me. But if a person I don’t know tries to touch me or take my leash, that’s when I run to hide. Otherwise, I really don’t pull and know to trust the person holding the leash. I’m not very energetic, but will sometimes play with my pittie foster sister. Nothing too rough, but I can definitely stand my ground! I’m surprisingly confident when I’m solo, but another dog in the home would help me feel more at home sooner than later. I’m currently taking medication for my anxiety-it helps with stressful situations like transitions and meeting new people. But once I find my forever home, I might be able to be weaned off because I get so much confidence from my caretakers. So once I know you’re not going anywhere, I might not need it! I’ll just count on you to let me know everything is ok. If you are gentle, patient, and just looking for someone to love-you might be my soul mate! *With the cutest most demure puppy-eye stare…* Is that you? Adoption fee: $495
