She would love to find a home with people who can help her channel that energy into training, so she can master all her basic commands. She is already working on her sit, down and touch, Kalahari is very smart and treat motivated. She loves to play with toys and is excellent at playing fetch with herself to keep entertained. Could Kalahari be your new canine companion?

Story
6/12/18 Update - Dino's foster home has made the following observations on him: Dino is very distrustful of men. However, he is learning to trust his foster Dad a bit more now. The recommended home is one where there is a single woman who is either retired or works from home, as he prefers women to men. Dino requires a patient person to work with him. He is scared of loud noises and movement. Dino is a water ba baby. He loves the water and enjoys playing in a plastic kiddy pool. Children terrify him. A home without children is required. Dino can't be placed as an only dog. He enjoys the company of other dogs and it helps his confidence. His adopter need to be very dog savvy and know how to work with undersocialized dogs. He is a great dog, is eager to please and he is trying to learn not to be afraid of his own shadow. Dino will require an adopter who is confident, and has time and patience. --- Meet Dino.  Dino is a reserved 3 year old tri-colored male Border Collie Mix with a smooth coat with prick ears.  Our best guess is that he is mixed with Australian Cattle Dog.  Dino entered our program pretty much feral, not socialized, and he was weary of people.  He is now learning to trust and he is as sweet as can be.  Dino is looking for his special someone to boost his confidence with positive reinforcement training.  Dino is a submissive male and would be best placed with another dog.  He does enjoy being with other dogs and is well socialized with them.  Dino walks decently on a leash now, but is bothered by loud noises.  He needs obedience training and needs to learn his recall better.  He also takes a soft command since he is so sensitive.  He could use some confidence building through some positive reinforcement obedience training.  Dino is a typical male for this breed, as he is extremely affectionate and loyal--he wants to bond tightly with his human.  Dino can adapt to activity--it just depends on what you ask of him.  One minute he's out romping around, and then the next he settles right down next to you.  Dino is nervous, and will pace a bit until he settles down.  Because a lot of stimulus is hard on him, a quieter household without small children would be best suited for him.  He would be well suited for an individual that goes to dog parks or likes to exercise with a dog by your side.  Dino rides very well in the car and gets along well with other dogs.  Dino would make a really nice canine companion for the person who is willing to invest the time in him.  If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please go on line and fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_appl ication.html

Story
Bailey - Courtesy Posting for Westside Animals For Adoption (Patterson, CA) Bailey is a handsome 4yr old male Border Collie. Bailey is an affectionate fellow, very entertaining, but he comes with a few quirks. When he gets excited he'll headbutt you if you're not careful. He sometimes develops a quiver in one of his rear legs (doesn't seem to hinder him at all). He can be picky about his dog friends and is competitive with his toys. He will bark at strangers. A bit of a puller on walks but does better with a Gentle Leader head harness. He can jump pretty high so you would need at least a 6' fence. I wouldn't put him in a home with small kids just because he doesn't always keep his feet on the ground. Teens and older should be fine. He's endearing, but you have to be willing to put up with his antics. The best home that is suited for Bailey is one where people are going to have enough time to give Bailey the exercise he needs, as well as the patience to help him learn good house manners. If you are interested in Bailey, please contact Augusta Farley 209-402-8343. He is available for adoption through Westside Animals for Adoption located in Patterson, CA.

Story
Meet Finnegan. Finn is a darling 10 month old male Border Collie Mix with a smooth coat. Most likely, he is mixed with Cattle Dog. He is still very puppy like and he thrives with consistency. He needs to be engaged and kept busy so that he is not destructive. Finn is smart and needs a job to do. Finn is a good boy and is biddable. He so wants to please. Finn is not for someone who hasn't trained a herding breed dog. He requires an owner who knows how to manage a herding breed youngster. He is quite athletic and has the potential to be a sports dog with the right person. Finn loves to play tug and fetch ball. Finn is house trained, crate trained, knows basic obedience commands, and walks well on a leash. He is very affectionate and, as is with herding breeds, he loves to be with his person and just hang out. He is well socialized with other dogs and loves to play with them, however, he needs to be the only dog in his home. Finn's adopters must be committed to work with the destruction and energy associated with raising a puppy, along with housebreaking accidents. As with all puppies, socialization and puppy obedience classes are a must. This will ensure that you will have an outgoing, socialized, well behaved, and well adjusted adult dog in your family. If you are interested in meeting Finn, please submit an adoption application. In addition to the adoption application, applicants will be required to answer some additional questions pertaining to puppies which will be sent to you after the adoption application has been submitted. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html

Story
Meet Esmeralda. Esmeralda is a female 6 year old, 65 pound bundle of love! She is a purebred traditionally marked black and white smooth coated Border Collie. We have nicknamed her Essie. Essie was a medical needs dog that required immediate rescue intervention from the shelter by BCIN, as we were her last hope of making it out of the shelter. She had several large lipomas on her back, which severely disfigured her, and she required extensive surgery to remove them. Hence, the original name from the shelter Esmeralda, from the the Hunchback of Notre Dame. We welcomed her into our rescue program with open arms, knowing she would need an expensive surgery. It would have been a shame to let such a beautiful soul be euthanized. Essie is a wonderful dog and she loves everyone she meets. Apparently, she has never met a stranger, as she is fantastic with other dogs and kids. She enjoys being with her humans as much as possible and loves being brushed and petted. Essie would need a fairly large yard where she can run around and chase her ball. She will play keep away, but when you throw the ball, she chases it. Essie has great manners and she ss great in the house. She is also crate trained and loves her crate. Essie would make a great family pet and companion. Essie is being fostered in East San Diego County. If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html

Story
Please Note: This dog is courtesy listing and is not part of BCIN's program. If you are interested in Sheela, please contact Lori at 760.861.5749 or by email at lorinortonyahoo.com@icloud.com . BCIN provides this service to help owners who must re-home their dog. Please be advised that BCIN has not evaluated nor tested the temperament of any of the dogs that are courtesy listed on our website. Sheela is 10 yrs. old- She is a smooth coated Border Collie, Black. & White with black freckles. We adopted Sheela from Animal Samaritan’s at approx. 11 mos. old. They had her on the local TV station & when I saw her face I had to run down & bring her home. I had to have that face. She had the run of 2 acres for 8 yrs. with a Lab we also adopted until illness & age forced us to sell our property & move into an RV full time in a Park. She is now limited to the RV & a 8X12 pen they permitted us to put directly behind RV. This has been a very difficult decision. Sheela really is an indoor member of family- she is house trained, crate happy, also when visiting others homes. She doesn’t like cats, she would be better with a family as the only dog (she doesn’t seem to care for other dogs) but contact has been limited other than the Lab we had. If the adopter could do obedience classes that would be wonderful. She demands affection constantly. She wants to be petted & rubbed without tiring of it. She loves riding in the car, also long trips & camping. But we’ve never let her off lead on trips. She doesn’t know what fetch means though. Sheela had some health issues about 5 yrs. ago with Ehrlichiosis but the Vet pulled her through. She also had an eye hemorrhage but the vet saved her eye & she is able to see fine. She does require cyclosporine drops 2 times daily for life. We’re happy to provide an extra months medication besides what we have on hand the medication runs $50 & lasts between 5 & 6 wks. She eats well, is active (loves her walks). She hasn’t received formal training but will sit with hand signal. She doesn’t know what fetch means. She needs people or a person she can sit at their feet & adore them all day long. ALL she wants is love. She’s never bitten or nipped anyone at this point. She will bark for good reason only. She does well with behaved children 6yrs. plus. We’ve not had opportunity to evaluate her with younger children. We really need to find a loving home for her and be directly adopted by someone who falls in love with her. We have her vet records & current shots. We are willing to transport up to 2 1/2 hours from Palm Springs. If you are interested in Sheela, please contact Lori at 760.861.5749 or by email at lorinortonyahoo.com@icloud.com .
