Story
Bear is a special dog who needs a special adopter. He doesn't know what real love is and he's always been extremely shy and scared of people. Until recently he wouldn't let people get close to him. Some volunteers have been working with him, and while a little scared he is now able to walk on a leash and takes treats from your hands if he knows you a bit. We know Bear is not a normal case dog and that he is going to need work and lots of patient from an adopter. He needs someone who can give him the space he needs to start trusting in people and love him for who he is. He is a very smart boy and you can tell he wants to trust people but it's not easy but he tries his best. We can see his great potential and we know that if you give him a chance soon enough he will give his whole world to you. If interested please send us an email to bornfreepetshelter@gmail.com

Story
HARLEY is a 6 years old, special boy who has really had a tough go of it but keeps pushing forward in hopes of finding his forever, committed person who embraces all of his qualities. Harley is not your average dog and therefore requires not the average adopter. While he has these special needs, we can assure you that he is worth it! One of his challenges is meeting new people, after a combination of improper socialization as a small puppy as well as some negative experiences. He has undergone some behavioral work and needs to be introduced to new people in the very slow and specific manner that allows him to be successful in trusting you. He prefers to keep his circle small, but once you’re in, you’re in for good. While he will need to separated from visitors in your home (he copes better in this manner and is comfortable being alone), he would thrive best in an adult only home with low traffic where life is kind of boring, if you will. He is comfortable with his routine and can struggle if there’s a lot of change going on. When life is consistent, he does great. Harley also has a couple of medications that he needs daily to make sure that he has the best quality of life both physically and mentally.  Once you’ve gained his trust, he is an incredible dog who is grateful for your kindness, bonds strongly, is loyal, and very easy to live with. He’s house trained, crate trained, muzzle trained (part of his behavioral work), walks well on the leash, knows sit/wait, loves the car, doesn’t chew or destroy your items, he’s easily handled for baths/grooming, quietly enjoys your company, but is also totally ok being alone. Another fabulous trait that Harley has is he is GREAT with BOTH dogs AND cats! He has spent several years in a home with kitty pals and he has been in a foster home with upwards of 7 other dogs and has never caused a problem. He really is a great dog for someone who understands him.  Harley has tried really hard to cope with the challenges that have been dealt to him. The people who know him, know how deserving he is of the right person and home environment. Harley will come with free initial behavioral support to make sure that he transitions smoothly and to answer any questions that you might have. If you can embrace his special qualities and appreciate them as being a part of who he is, we promise that you will be thankful for having him around and giving him a chance. He will be worth it for the right adopter! 80lbs  Adoption fee is $175 and includes DHPP & rabies vaccinations, heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery, deworming, parasite screening, and microchip. All animals are examined by a veterinarian. Please fill out our application at  https://gkarma.wufoo.com/forms/good-karma-pet-rescue-dog-adoption-screening/  if you are interested in meeting or adopting this dog and we will be in touch right away!
