Story
Summer is a recent addition to the CHS family. She came to the shelter via Animal Control when she was found tied to a fence behind a local hotel. It is believed that she was owned by a homeless person, but we don't really know. Not knowing what her history is hard for us as we don't really know any type of experiences she has had in her life. We have been able to kind of guess that she is about 1.5 years old, she has been spayed as we did that, and she is current on her vaccinations. She is a pretty good house guest here at the shelter, she keeps to her self and enjoys just hanging out in her kennel. She plays a mean game of fetch and on many days you can find her lying flat on her back in her kennel with her belly to the sky. She loves to show off her tummy. She has never really met a person that she does not LOVE and would like to find a family that will give her a secure place to stay, and will invite her in to be part of the family. Summer has a pretty good obedience foundation but would love to spend sometime in training classes so she can learn a little more. We feel that Summer is going to be the most successful in a home environment where she is an only dog, and that there are no cats at either. If you are interested in meeting Summer we ask that you please send an email to animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org We will happily send you an application, once we have that application on file,we will then be more than happy to schedule a time for you and your family to come out and meet with her. Due to our small size and our commitment to our placements, we will not do any meet and greets with out a prior appointment being made for that pet. It is very important to us that we are able to give adequate time to our adopters when they come to do a meet and greet. We understand we are asking you to make a commitment for life to one of our pets, and we want to be sure that you have our full undivided attention. Summer's adoption fee is $250.00For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Albus (of the Dumbledore family) is a happy, bright addition to the CHS clan. With such a magical background, he is sure to bring many smiles and much laughter to the family that he chooses. With being just over a year old, he is still learning about everything that life has to offer him. This guy is a relatively recent addition from a shelter in Texas, where he did live for a time in a foster home. He is very excited in the shelter and really likes all the attention that he gets. He enjoys playing with his toys and playing with all his dog friends that he has out in playgroup. With the enthusiasm that he shows for life, we are suggesting that if he were to go with another dog, he needs to go with a dog between the ages of 1-5 who can keep up with his antics and preferably a female would be the best match for him. We are not sure what his experience is with cats. He will not make a good candidate to live in an apartment as he is about 45lbs and needs to have a fenced yard. Albus does seem to have a hearing issue, so we don't feel that he is going to do well in a home with kids. We are looking for someone with experience with dogs with hearing loss, even though he has been conditioned to hand signals already. As with all pets available for adoption through CHS, we do best fit for each family. We ask that prior to just showing up at the shelter you please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org and we will send you an application to fill out. Once the application is approved we will then schedule a time for you to come and meet the pet that you are interested in. It is our duty to make sure that our adopters are not put into a situation that would make them uncomfortable, and that we do the same for our animals. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Coming in at a year and a half old it has taken us a little while to learn about what would or wouldn't be best for Quinn. This girl is pretty, will do wonderful in a home as a single dog. What she lacks in experience in her life she has in love to give just the right family. We feel due to her excitable nature that Quinn would do best in a home with no kids as she can't do a really busy household that kids bring. She is going to need an experienced family that is willing to work work with her on training and give her great experiences in life. If you think that you can give Quinn that just right home please feel free to email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org we will happy to share an application with you and set up a time to come and meet her.For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
This kid is about 2 years old and weighs in right around 50lbs. She is a very smart and active girl and will do best in a home with the right dog partner. She does well with other dogs, but a balance will need to be created for her. We would prefer to see her with a male dog. Penelope is a good girl and needs to have some training done with her. She will require an owner who is very educated on her breed, and is also educated about positive reinforcement training. She is on her way to doing wonderfully with her obedience training, but Penelope is going to require a home that is willing to continue to work with her. We don't feel that Penelope is going to do well in a home with kids. She is going to need a home that is quiet that does not have a lot of stimulation. Please be advised that all dog adoptions are done through CHS by appointment only. Once you have an approved application online, we will schedule a time for you to come and meet the pet that you are interested in. Our adoptions are not done on a first come first serve basis, we believe that our pets need to be appropriately matched with our adopters. We want our pets to be successful as well as our adopters to be successful. If there is a pet you are interested in please email us at animalwelfare@columbiahumane.orgFor more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Introducing Squirrley I have to admit, it isn’t easy being named after most dog’s arf nemesis. It’s like naming a cat Mousey. Or naming a sheep, Wolfy. Or nick naming a Vampire, Sunshine. The only thing worse might have been to name me *gasp* Mailman, Amazon Delivery Dude or UPS Lady. All sworn enemies of the canines by oath of law. Truffly though, I really don’t mind the name. I am just happy to not be living on my own and actually have an identity. I was rescued by a Street Dog Rescuer after being dumped on the side of the road wrapped in a shower curtain and old bedspread. I was skin and bones. That was a sad day for me to be treated like garbage. There is a light at the tunnel. My saddest day opened the door to what will be my best day. The DAY YOU ADOPT ME!! I am a female 5 year old Boxer mix weighing in about 30 pounds. The best way to remember that I am a female is to remember that squirrelly rhymes with girly. It also rhymes with Shirley, but surely you knew that. You are a smart human right? I am an intelligent girl too. I am being a good girl around all the other dogs at the rescue camp. I don’t beg or seek attention, but when the Rescue Lady talks to me, I stop to listen. She stops to watch my ears wiggle to catch her voice. I have the best ears on campus. I love that the humans talk to me. It is just so refreshing to have someone pay attention to little ole me. I come when called because not only does this Rescue Lady pay me with attention, she has been known to also pay me in a dog desired currency, weenies. So do you want to be the lucky person that provides me with my BEST DAY EVER???? If so, please fill out an application. GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter. Our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. Each dog comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date with age appropriate vaccinations, micro-chipped, heartworm tested and are current with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE OF $400 for dogs over a year old, which also includes the cost of transportation to the assigned location. Medical records accompany each dog at the time of delivery and may be emailed to adopter prior to dog arrival if desired. Microchips will be automatically registered to the new owner after payment of adoption fee. The registration site we use is Michelson Found Animals which is free to use and update during the lifetime of your pet. Please allow 24-48 hours for the new information to appear on the website. God's Dogs will remain as a permanent back up registration for safety sake. Please visit our website http://godsdogsrescue.org/ for helpful information re: transport, our adoption process and application, volunteering and fostering, and photos of our dogs/pups looking for homes!! Thank you for wanting to adopt a rescued dog, their LIVES depend on it!
