Kirk is a gorgeous, 4-5 year old Cane Corso. He came from a municipal dog kennel and all the volunteers called him a "gentle giant". He's been with us for about a month and his foster mom says he is extremely sweet, smart, gentle, and affectionate. She has taught him sit, down, paw, and roll over! Unfortunately, Kirk is heartworm positive. He is starting a 30 day pre-treatment and then will need a series of injections to kill the worms. Then 60 days bed rest. His foster mom is more than willing to take care of him during this time - but we feel it would be better for him to find his forever home. We don't want him to bond with his foster mom and then be uprooted - again. We are looking to place Kirk as "foster to adopt" - this means we will cover all his medical costs during his treatment and recovery period. Once treatment is over we would then make the adoption official. Due to the Coronovirus COVID 19 and the disruption to our daily lives, we are not accepting applications from further than 2 hours from Zip Code 44044 effective immediately. Once life is back to normal, this restriction will be lifted. Thank you for your cooperation. * * * * * * * * Katie is a spunky 2-year-old Cane Corso mix. We rescued her from a local pound where she was picked up as a stray. She would do best in a home with an active family with older children as she thinks and acts like she is still a puppy. She is good with male dogs but like most females, can get bossy with another female. She does like to chase cats if they run, therefore a home without cats would be best. There are 2 cats at the kennel that she has learned to leave alone, but we would not trust her fully with them. Katie is really a great dog. Unfortunately, she suffers from breed misunderstanding and “black dog syndrome” being passed over for adoption in favor of lighter-colored animals. She is really smart and learns very quickly whatever you teach her. She is a lot of fun and LOVES people. She is crate trained and like any puppy (she sure acts like one) is pretty much house-trained. She just needs to learn a routine of your home and she will do great. Matrix was rescued by our son. They both shared our house for over 2 years, until our son had to travel to another state for work. Matrix is friendly with family, including our cat. He is wary of strangers, and, being a Cane Corso mix, is protective of our home. We would love to see him go to an owner who has the experience and time to care for him. He is a big dog and needs a confident owner.

Story

My son brought Matrix home as a rescue, almost 1 year old. Matrix is now 3 years old, but his owner, my son, had to move out of state for his job and could not take Matrix with him. We have two young grandchildren at home. Matrix has not been aggressive with them, but he is an alpha type dog and needs to be firmly controlled. I normally take care of him and I have to work hard to control him on the leash if there are other dogs or people in the neighborhood. He pays attention to me but to no-one else. He is not agressive with our granddkids (9 and 10 years old) but the are careful with him - they know enough not to mess with his food or try and take anything out of his mouth. We would love to find him a strong owner who has time to spend with him.
