My name is Connally, but you can call me Nelly. I love snuggling on the couch with my foster mom and just being with people in general! Any time my foster mom is sitting down I HAVE to be next to her or in her lap. I also love playing with my squeaker toys and sometimes I like stealing blankets too and running around with them! I’m not a big fan of my foster sisters and a home with humans to love all to myself would make me happiest. I’m a little nervous going in my kennel but food is a good motivator for me! Sometimes I bark but it’s only a few times then I realize how comfy my blankets are and go to sleep. My foster mom says she's very happy with how I behave in my kennel. I LOVE being outside. Sadly with my heartworm treatment I’m on restriction so I can’t go play but there’s so many smells! I’m so excited for that to be done so I can play and go for long walks outside. Walks were one of my favorite things when I was in Texas! I do get nervous meeting new people, so boy am I excited about social quarantine. I think once I find my people to trust, I can open up to others. I have come a long way to be here, now I just need a family to be patient and let me open up on my own time. Since Nelly is heartworm positive she will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton. Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos. All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). I am full of puppy energy and when that's all gone, I love to cuddle with you on the couch! I came to Minnesota with my brother from Missouri. We were dumped and then sent to puppy jail. We were pretty sick with all the parasites that come with being a dumped puppy. Some nice lady decided to save us though and paid to get us treated so we are all better! Then we got the freedom ride to Minnesota and are living the good life! We love our foster family, but are still learning about life and are a little cautious when it comes to things we haven't met yet. We definitely need someone who is willing to give us the time and attention we didn't have when we were really little! We sleep together in a large pen in a room of our own. I'm quite scared at times, but my foster sisters helped bring me out of my shell when I moved to my foster home. I would benefit from dog another dog to help me learn the ropes. I would also benefit from a quiter home because I do get scared of loud noises. I am a very sweet and loyal dog who loves to be your shadow and snuggle. I am potty trained and kennel trained. I had to be surrendered back to PPAR when my owner became very sick and could no longer care for me. When PPAR brought me to the vet, they discovered I had kidney disease. Because of this, I will need to be on a regulated diet to help control it. Please don't discount me because of that! I would love to be your lap dog, snuggle buddy!
