Meet Chillie! Chillie is a Chihuahua, probably mixed with another small breed. He came to Starfish with four siblings. He weighs in at 8 lbs and was born in mid July. He is sweet and a bit shy. He needs people to go slowly with him, but when he learns to trust, he is just fine. If you know chihuahuas, you know they can just be a bit bossy but are complete loves to their humans. Given his size he will need to be attended to at all times when outside. Chillie is a great pup... he is crate & pen trained, and he is working very hard on his potty training. Starfish will require adoptive families to have older children/visiting grandchildren in the family -14+ years only, please. The adoption fee of $350 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Although we do the best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can make no guarantee. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! Hairless Joe is a 4 year old chi mix. His adoption fee is $300 which includes his neuter, microchip implant, fecal exam, and shots up to date. Joe is currently in foster learning on basic training, and he is picking it up fast! He loves to play with his foster siblings and go for walks, but he loves to snuggle even more! He came to the rescue hairless but is starting to grow his fur back. Please note: All dogs require a $100 training deposit. Once confirmation of the completion of a training class has been sent to the rescue, you will receive your deposit back in full. As we are a rescue all of our adult dogs/puppies for adoption must be spayed or neutered. Although we make every attempt to have this done before finding their adoptive families, this is not always possible. Please speak with your adoption coordinator to see of this service has already been performed or they will explain to you if your new dog/puppy will need this service while in your care at no cost to you. When emailing please include your phone number to help speed up the adoption process. Also, for the safety of our dogs we only adopt within a 2 hour radius of Joliet, Illinois to allow our volunteers to do home checks if necessary.

Meet little Benjamin. He is about 8-9 yrs old and weighs around 6.5 pounds. He came from a local kill shelter where he ended up as a stray and no one ever came to claim him. He loves playing with toys and is crate trained. He can be slow to warm up to new people, but can be a lovable little guy once you earn his trust. He is currently living in a foster home where he gets along with most of the other dogs. He can be possessive over his food and his people, though, so he would probably do best with someone experienced in managing those types of behaviors. He also can be territorial and does exhibit marking behavior around the other dogs so he normally wears a belly band in the home. He will be a project, but so worth it when he climbs up in your lap and nuzzles your neck or rolls over for belly rubs. He has had a rough start in life and really deserves a loving home that will teach him all the joys of being a cherished pet. We will only place him in an all adult experienced home that understands he is going to need proper management. Benji's adoption fee of $150 helps cover the cost of his veterinary care. Application, reference checks, and home visit required. Adopters must live 1.5-2 hours driving distance from Romeoville, IL. What the video and pictures don't show is that Pansy is extremely fear aggressive with new people and in new circumstances. What does this mean? It means Pansy acts aggressive towards people she doesn't know. She displays behavior she has learned scares people away to attempt to protect herself. She needs someone who is willing to be patient with her and allow her to build trust at her pace. It will be a long, slow process, but in the end it will be worth it. Her ideal home would be a quiet all-adult household. The fewer the people, the better. We would love to find someone that will commit to working with Pansy on a continued basis.
