Story
Hello there! My name is Alamo, and I am a beautiful 4 year-old red chihuahua who came to the shelter as a stray. I know how to sit and beg for those treats I love so much! Here at the shelter, I have played with dogs that are small like me, and dogs that are bigger. With both, I am super friendly and love to play with them! I would probably do best in a home with another dog to play with. It may take me a little while to warm up to humans, however. My one requirement: I would not do best in a home with young kids. I'd love to meet you!

Story
Hi there! My name is Daniel, and I am a pretty 5 year-old chihuahua who was brought to the shelter as a stray. I am a little anxious and timid here at the shelter, so it may take me a little while to warm up to you. For this reason, I would not do very well in a home with young children. However, I am capable of co-existing and maybe even making friends with other dogs! Just give me time to adjust and warm up, and I'll be your best friend. Come and meet me today!

Story
Jamming JiffyApprox DOB: 6/2010                 Approx. Wht: 11 pds. $175 adoption fee Jiffy was rescued from a kill shelter after being picked up as a stray. He does really well with smaller dogs. At the rescue Jiffy hangs out with five to six small dogs everyday and they love each other:) Jiffy would be totally happy getting all the attention as well lol.  Jiffy has been so much fun to work with. In the rescue business you learn that certain breeds have certain quirks:)  if you are a lover of chihuahuas then you’ll love my pal Jiffy. Like most chihuahuas they desire their one or two main humans. He’s gonna love you forever. Jiffy needs an understanding couple who won’t judge him but understand his quirks. Life’s been rough to my little buddy and it takes him time to warm up. Let me tell you my first week working at the rescue Jiffy didn’t trust me. Those little ankle bitters lol. In my experience chihuahuas  are loving, protective, and super silly. That’s what you’d be getting with Jiffy.  Since life was rough to Jiffy a lot of people stress him out. He needs to be crated when friends and family are over. Until he gets to know them. Ideally a mature couple with no kids would rock for this little fellow. People who understand the breed and are compassionate enough to give him some time to warm up. In his prior family he bit a couple of family members who came into his favorite family members space....he thought he was protecting them. He has been seen by a Animal Behaviorist and needs structure and not being pushed to do things that stress him out to that point.     I have been neutered, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped, and wormed. Please fill out a application for me at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, just click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon. A dedicated volunteer will be touch soon. Thank you for your interest in me. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support!

Story
Approx. DOB: 4/16/2014                         Approx. Weight: 14 lbs. Adoption Fee: $175 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Snoopy was pulled from a local shelter that was very full. Snoopy is a silly chihuahua who needs his special person with previous dog experience. At first like most chihuahuas he is protective. Unfortunately a lot of dogs have had bad past experiences. Luckily with lots of love this little guy has blossomed. Snoopy loves little dogs but not so much those big dogs. It’s a small dog thing:) He would love to lay on the couch or go for a car ride anytime. Snoopy needs a compassionate human who can take the time to get to know him. He’s totally worth the effort. Ideally a less traffic home would be best. A more calm environment is needed for his happiness. Snoopy hasn’t had the opportunity to be in a foster home since he was so traumatized when we got him.  He’s a smart pooch so it wouldn’t take long to show him that this is what a home is. A safe place with a good person. NO CHILDREN PLEASE Ask is about fostering! We need your help. Snoopy has been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting Snoopy, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.
