Haley is a female Chihuahua, 4-5 years of age and weighs 8.5 pounds. She and a pup, that appeared to be from her last litter, was picked up stray and brought to the San Marcos Animal Care. Her second day in the facility, Haley delivered 3 puppies. We were contacted by the facility and ask if we would take her in, but she was heartworm positive. We immediately picked them up. She was a very protective mom, but a very good mom. Haley's pups are now adopted and Haley is in the last week of heartworm treatment. Since her puppies have left, her personality has changed. She is loving, attention seeking, and loves to sit in laps and sleep in her kennel. She would do well with older children. Would NOT be a dog good around small children. She is housebroken and walks on a leash. She does well with other dogs and most likely ok with cats, but squirrels are in danger. We visited a petshop and she enjoyed the attention and treats that were offered. Haley has been heartworm treated, spayed, microchipped, and up to date with all vaccinations. Ouch! These three pups came to us after suffering chemical burns. We are not sure of their history - they most likely ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time- not intentional just bad luck. So right now some of these pups have some yucky burns down their backside which may make you a little squeamish. The good thing is a puppy’s skin is very resilient and they should heal just fine. While they may have a scar or two in some areas, it just provides more of a story and makes for a more hearty rescue. These pups are bouncy, outgoing, super social, and just love everyone they meet. They eat like champs and will follow you around from room to room. They are low rider squatty type yet also lab like so be prepared for a surprise. Puppies do require extra time and care so please take that into consideration when adopting. In return, they will provide you with lifelong companionship and incredible joy.
