Story
If anyone is looking to adopt an adorable mini bear, we have the perfect girl for you! Say hello to Adelita! **Being fostered in Tulsa, OK** Hello there everyone! My name is Adelita and I am a 4.5 year old female German Shepherd/Lab/Chow mix. I know, I am a bit of a mix of everything! My DNA test said I also had Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees in me. I weigh about 86lbs, but am overweight. You see, I have this thing called hypothyroidism. While the meds are keeping me in check, it is very easy for me to gain weight. My adopter has tried keeping me exercised, but with her being in an apartment she is worried that I am just not getting enough exercise. The main reason I am being surrendered back to the rescue is because my adopter has an older 16 year old dog and I am just too much for her. While I am sad, I know that my furever family is out there and I am going to find them!!! Here is what my adopter/foster says about me "She is an extremely loving girl. She just wants to sit near you, with occasional cuddles. She even gets a little sad when you leave. She loves to sit on the couch for some reason but also likes to sprawl on the floor but she won't use a dog bed or lay on a blanket. She's a very quiet girl, almost never barks ever. She loves to sit outside in the cool weather and can get hot easily because of her coat and weight. She is an absolute joy at the vet. She never gives them any trouble whatsoever, even when they have to draw blood. They adore her when she comes in. She also never gives me in trouble or gets aggressive when I have to pry something out of her mouth or look at her teeth. She can be a bit rambunctious and sometimes diffcult on the leash but she's just excited. She sometimes leaps in the air and does little cirlces when it's food time. She is EXTREMELY food motivated. If she sees food she will zone in on it but she doesn't really beg when you're eating or try and bother you. She will eat too fast and choke so she has a special slow down bowl that helps her eat slower, she hasn't had any problems since we got it. She takes her medicine every morning without issue, I just put it in my hand with a few pieces of kibble and she eats it all up. Sometimes when she's very excited, like when you come home from work, she'll get so excited she has to go poop right away so always take her out quickly just in case. She's very well potty trained and gets upset when she goes in the house and makes sad puppy eyes. She has toys but she'll never get them first. You always have to prompt her to play, which is great exercise for her. She likes it when you throw them in the house a short distance and she can run and get them. She'll usually go get the toy and hop on the couch and wait for you to try and take it from her. She'll growl and sound like she's going to eat you but she's just playing and won't hurt you. She just wants to play tug of war. She loves to bop you with her big ol' paws when she wants to be petted, as if she's pettying you first, and LOVES belly rubs. She sometimes makes a grumbling noise when you pet her, it's a happy noise almost like purring. If you mimic the sound she'll grumble again and you can go back and forth several times. She sits patiently while you brush her and doesn't mind the undercoat brush. She's loves to get in the car and go bye-bye, if you walk her near the car she will head straight for the door and if you open it she will hop inside immediately. She's not great at balance so sometimes she falls over in the backseat but eventually she'll settle. She can be a bit clumsy sometimes, especially when she's excited. She doesn't always realize her size or have awareness of what's around her. So she may sometime knock over or hurt small children or dogs. She doesn't mean to, she just can't help it. If your dogs all rush to a door at once, or towards you for dinner, if you grab the leash, etc. she just wiggle around and hops and doesn't mean to hurt anyone but sometimes she might head butt you or something. You just have to be careful and learn to read her a bit. All in all, she is a big sweet girl who adores her humans." I am a very outgoing girl and LOVE meeting new people! I am a very friendly girl! I am generally good in public settings. A bit excitable and likely to run up to people but only to meet them and get pets. My energy level is pretty much a mix of everything. I do like to nap but also like to run. I play with toys, and sometimes try to get the other dog to play with me. I get very excited and energetic if food or people are involved. But I can also be very laid back sometimes, especially if there's no stimuli. I can be trusted with the run of the house. I do like to get into things like paper, fabric, etc so those things should be put up. I am also potty trained. I do like to play fetch, sometimes I am not in the mood but it's great exercise for me. I don't like to play fetch outside so much but love to go get my toy when you throw it in the house and to play tug of war. I do ride well in the car, and usually just plop down in the back seat. I am working on my leash training, but with me being so excited to meet new people and explore I do have a tendency to try to pull on it. I am not really a barker, and have free roam of the house when my owner is gone. At night, I like to sleep in the bedroom with my owner. I am potty trained, but not kennel trained. I have not needed one, just have to make sure easy to grab things are put up and I am just fine with the run of the house! I am a very friendly and loving dog and would do great with kids! However, I don't quite realize my size, and it may be better that the kiddos be 8 and older. Sometimes I may step on you, sits on you, etc. I do well with cats, and am pretty indifferent to other dogs. I do not like it if they act mean towards me, and will act the same towards them if they start it. My ideal home would be one with other big dogs,or no dogs at all. I am great with people, I just absolutely adore them! I just want to follow you around all day long and sit in whatever room you're in. Sometimes I try to get the other dog to play but I would probably be fine as an only dog. I don't like dog beds but I LOVE to sit on the couch, especially with you. I don't like to sleep in the bed, though. Since I do have a thyroid issue and struggle with my weight, a more active person/family would be ideal. Diet alone doesn't do it, I need to be active. Overall, I just need a family that is okay having a bigger dog that thinks she is a tiny lap dog. I just want to be involved with my new family, and have someone that will love me as much as I will them! My adoption fee is $225 and that will include my vaccinations, spay, and micro-chip. It also includes first month of meds, and I will be current on my heart-worm and flea/tick prevention. To adopt me please visit https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app
