Story
Ghost / M / 10 Weeks / 15 Pounds / Collie mix / Oshawa
Meet Ghost! Ghost was born in our care on January 16th, and through no fault of his own is the last one of his siblings still waiting for his forever home!
Ghost’s foster parents describe him as energetic, smart, sweet, curious, playful and outgoing. He’s never met a dog or person he doesn’t like, and will greet everyone with excitement and a happy tail. His favourite activities are exploring, playing with his foster sibling, and every toy he can find.
Ghost is deaf, and this will require a level of understanding and patience when it comes to training, socialization and exposure to different environments. Experience with deaf dogs is a plus, but if not his family should be willing to go the extra mile to educate themselves on raising and training a deaf dog. It should be known that do to his condition, he will likely never be suitable to be off leash. Training will consist primarily of hand gestures, so long distance recall will be difficult to establish. Even despite this, training a deaf dog is easier than you may think, as dogs rely on their nose and touch primarily!
Ghost is extremely smart and eager to please. He is still very young, so is learning basic commands easily. With the help and support of his foster family, he has already learned sit, wait and how to notify you when he needs to use the washroom! He is good on leash, but gets very excited when he sees a person or a dog, so will pull to try and introduce himself. His forever family should be committed to helping him understand leash etiquette and greetings.
Ghosts ideal family will have the time and patience to commit to his ongoing training, socialization and exercise routine. He would do fine with children, but can be a little rough so younger children are not ideal. His family should be willing to work with a lot of puppy biting/nipping as he can bite hard when he is feeling playful. He does not like to be left alone, so his family should be willing to continue on building his confidence. He would do best as a second dog, he looks to his current foster sibling for guidance and absolutely loves to play with other dogs. As is he so young, he will need to be crated or in a puppy proofed space while unsupervised. He is working on crate training, and may whine/bark for about 10 minutes when he first goes in but settles quickly and sleeps most of the night (he will require a potty break).
Although Ghost is young, we predict he will be a high energy dog. He will likely require multiple long walks a day, along with play time and mental stimulation. He is looking for an active family, who is home more often than not. He could adapt to most living situations, but would love a backyard to play in if possible.
As a condition of the adoption contract, Ghost’s new family will be required to:
-Neuter him within 6 months of adoption. If done at our partner vet in Mississauga, the neuter will be included in the adoption fee. If you choose to do it elsewhere, it will be done at your own cost. Proof of neuter is required to finalize the adoption.
-Ensure he has regular opportunities to go outside. If you work full time, this means hiring a dog walker to come in 1-2x per day for a puppy visit.
-Attend and complete a basic obedience class at your own cost (proof required).
-Provide plenty of socialization opportunities – both dog and human – it's critically important at this stage.
-He will be up-to-date on vaccines for his age and Fetch & Releash will cover the cost of the entire puppy booster series provided it’s done at our local vet partner in Mississauga.
