Story
Meet Hank! He's a sophisticated gentleman, meaning he's fully potty trained, crate trained and has overall good manners. He is very affectionate and loves to be near his people. He has the most beautiful soft fur and will let you pet him for days. His fur is what leads us to believe he may be a collie mix, but we are unsure of his mix. He is very submissive and playful with the other dogs in the house and he has even met a cat. The cat batted him when he approached and that was the end of his interest in the cat. He does seem to prefer women to men, but given a little bit of time to warm up, he will give a man kisses too. He loves to fetch toys and roll over for belly rubs. He rides great in the car. Hank would do well as an only dog or with another playful dog. Story
Meet Sammy, a handsome Smooth-Coated Collie who came to BAARK’s Safe House when his family no longer wanted him. Although initially traumatized by being abandoned by the family he had known, loved, and loyally protected for eight years, Sammy had adjusted in his new foster home. This sweet senior is estimated to be about 10 years old. He came to us grossly overweight as a result of getting little exercise but plenty of low quality filler food. Sammy has lost over 10 lbs while in his foster home the last two months, but has another 10 – 15 lbs yet to lose. He came to us weighing an unhealthy weight of 77 lbs. With a high quality food and an exercise routine, any dog can slim down, as Sammy is doing!! Sammy is a gentle boy, good with other dogs (but can be shy). A slow introduction to new dogs is important, so as not to overwhelm Sam. He would do well living with another easy-going senior, or as the only dog. He ignores cats. Sammy is a very smart boy and a quick learner. He has taken on the job of protecting his people. He is always watching out for strangers and will bark to alert of any strange people or occurrences. Sammy is reported to take his job seriously, ensuring that everyone in the household is present, and at night, safely tucked into bed. Then, he can rest too! Sam is scared of loud noises, thunderstorms, and fireworks, and prefers an overall quiet environment with a handful of people. He can become stressed and overwhelmed when too many people are present. For example, if the family often has parties and lots of company. Sammy would be fine with older children but younger ones might scare him. He is fine with other dogs once he gets to know them and feels comfortable with them. Sammy is one of the many seniors who BAARK is trying to re-home with a family who can appreciate the love and attentiveness that seniors can bring. Sammy is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm preventative. He is housebroken as well. If you are interested in adding this sweet senior to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Emily is feeling sad these days, after having been discarded by her family for allegedly partnering with the other dog in the home to harm the family cat. While the circumstances are questionable, we wanted to get Emily out of the situation before she was dumped at Animal Control. We are not sure of her breed, but Emily is a very stunning and unique-looking girl, perhaps a Collie-Hound Mix of sorts. She is about 5 years old, and weighs about 65 lbs (she needs a family willing to help her lose some weight…she should weigh about 50-55 lbs). Emily is fine with other dogs but might prefer to be an only dog…or have a single, laid-back canine housemate to keep her company. She cannot be placed with cats in the home, given the circumstances of her past. She is fine with older children but children under the age of 8 might be too much for her. She’s housebroken, and overall calm and well-behaved. Emily will require a fenced yard, as she enjoys being outside in the sun and simply hanging out outside. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative (and on monthly heartworm preventative). She does need to lose some weight, through exercise and monitoring of her diet…of high-quality natural food….as well as limiting of her treats. While some people may consider Emily to look a little scary, she’s just sad and frustrated to find herself homeless. Please give this girl a chance at a home of her own by opening your home and heart to her…and providing her a forever family of her own. If you are interested in adding this wonderful girl to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895

Rango is a wonderful dog we are sad to part with. We rescued him when he was 5 and have enjoyed him the last 6 years. We are looking to rehome since he's not good with kids and we have a toddler.
