Story
Ginger’s story is the epitome of “Rescue.” For us, it began in August, 2018, when we received a call of desperation from a local veterinarian. He told us he was sitting in his office with a sweet, alert and attentive, lovely, little Shih Tzu girl, whose owners were requesting he euthanize her, due to their inability to continue her care. Poor Ginger had been suffering from severe skin problems for 3 years. She had received innumerable medications, which were causing side effects, but not correcting the underlying illness. Shih Tzu Rescue immediately took her in and Ginger’s new life on the road to wellness began. Upon meeting Ginger it was clear that she was a wonderful, adorable little girl, who loved to be held and cuddled.She had almost no hair and her skin was black and covered with sores. We felt she was likely suffering from undiagnosed Cushing’s disease, which our initial tests confirmed. After a costly, extensive work up, Ginger underwent surgery to remove an adrenal gland tumor, in September, 2018. She did well after the surgery and is now thriving in our care. There have been no more skin infections or itching, and her coat is growing in nicely. Ginger feels great, is full of pep, and relieved to be free of all those harsh medications. Currently, Ginger is being managed on several supplements and eye drops, which are keeping her well balanced and doing extremely well. She is such a great girl, and, after going through so much, she is happy and ready to share her love with a new family. Ginger needs and deserves a very special person, who will appreciate and cherish her, and who has the financial means and time to continue her ongoing care. We know her angel is out there and ready to be blessed by our amazing Ginger.  Please watch the video at the end of the photos to see more of Ginger.

Our DREAMY is truly a dream to be around; he is such a little prince!  He is only 4 yrs 1/2  old and weighs about 14 lbs.  While he does get along with other dogs, DREAMY would prefer a home where he can be the king of the castle and get most of the attention.  He really is a sweet boy who would do best with an experienced dog owner to understand his needs.  From one of our volunteers: 'I was able to spend some time with Dreamy yesterday and fell in love with him. He has the sweetest eyes and was so gentle. He sat right next to me and took all the treats I was giving him so calmly. I know that he's come a far way since arriving at the shelter, and he truly will be a wonderful addition to the home who is lucky enough to have him.' We hope we can find the perfect family for DREAMY in the near future. Could he be waiting for you? Story
This sweet duo of brothers, COLT and CADEN are about 3 yrs old and bonded together.  COLT is smaller at about 12 lbs, and CADEN is about 16 lbs.  They need to be adopted together, and why not?  They make quite a team!  They are an unusual mix of shih tzu and probably long-haired dachschund.  They seem to be non-shedding too.    COLT has the darker face and coat and CADEN has the brown/tan/gray mixed coat.  Both are very friendly and affectionate to all humans.  They both love toys, and both boys are high energy and playful.  Their tails never stop wagging!    COLT and CADEN's ideal home would be one looking for a mischievous fun pair who will keep you young and active, and laughing.    If this sounds like you, please put an application in and ask to meet COLT & CADEN.
