He is a larger than life personality. Like any good Dal, he is energetic and over the top happy. He knows basic commands as it's clear someone worked with him. He's wicked smart which means he needs an owner who is smarter than him! He will need continued work on not jumping up on people. Pluto loves people but is not a dog for a novice owner. He needs an owner that understands Dals in particular but also has dealt with high energy type of dogs. He's a runner's dream because like the breed standard he can go...and go.... Pluto previously lived with big dogs and little dogs. He has lived with both in his foster home. He appears to get along with the dogs he has met thus far. Proper introductions and walks need to happen with big dogs. He does not like when he is mounted, despite the fact that he sometimes can be guilty of it, too! Pluto is crate trained and housetrained. He is not allowed to run loose when his foster is not home. When visitors come over, he is contained with an exercise pen and he's initially introduced to folks through the pen. He is then more likely to open up quickly and seek out appropriate attention. Otherwise not meeting in a controlled setting, he jumps up, he's in their face, he grabs ears (um? Ear nibbler?!)...So initial introduction is important! Pluto hasn't proven to be a resource guarder though he does grunt when you want to take away his toys. He gives them up but he's not happy. He likes to play with toys and chases after balls but hasn't grasped the concept of retrieve. Pluto is only an option for those who have had a large breed dog as an adult (family pet/roommate pet/petsitting do not count) and if there is Dalmatian experience and knowledge that is preferred. If there are kids, they need to be knock over proof at probably 10ish.
