Story
Tony, 1 yr., neutered, Queensland mixFor the longest time, I didn't know his mix, definitely cattle dog, blue heeler coat. Then I saw it! He's part Dachshund! He has the head and ear carriage, houndy tail and ice blue eyes too! Tony is about a year old and soooo handsome! He's on the small end of medium. And has crazy ice color eyes, almost white! It's hard not to be hypnotized by those eyes! Tony was very shy, but curious and sweet. Once I got him well on leash, he was given off leash privilege and oh my dawg he burns up the ground! This is dog that needs a very active buddy and a good amount of exercise. He is so fun to watch! He's great in a crowd! He is great in a car. Rode loose here in the van with shelter mates, Zula and Olive. And integrated easily into a new pack. Very good with other dogs, and he builds special relationships with the different pack members. Tony really does need an alpha dog to help his confidence. He sees how much Romeo loves me, and he stands on his back and paws my hands for affection! But if Romeo isn't there, he's tentative. But I don't want to forge a tight bond with Tony, as he does need to do this with his new owner. Tony is, and he LOVES being a house dog. We're closer and closer. He allows me to pet him all over when he's off leash now, and it used to be, I couldn't touch him until he jumped in the van or was in the house. He voluntarily comes to me or who he knows now. He likes kids. I think he felt safe with young kids. He loves Vicky my volunteer and her teenage granddaughter. Tony has been here a little while, building up his confidence, and it's time for him to fly. Do you have a dog that needs company? He would be your guy. With one on one time with his people, he'll be the most devoted and reliable dog ever. Great in my house, he learned to use the dog door. He has no destructive tendencies, although, he'll take your dogs and underwear to his dog bed... I guess this means he likes me? Or I smell like something dead... but he doesn't chew anything up, he just sleeps with them. He's taught me to pick up my dirty clothes though! Tony knows, he is not allowed in my kitchen or living room, without benefit of door! He learned from the other dogs, do not put a toe over the threshold. Pretty amazing to some, but I expect this. Tony is a little quirky. I feed him by his bed, and he feels more comfortable this way, than eating in the laundry room with the insiders. But outside, he'll eat from any of the self feeders out in the yard. If I do leave him in the big yard over night, (sometimes, I don't want 5 dogs in the house) he is totally accepting. Grabs a dog loo and I see him in the morning. Tony is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, micro-chipped, and ready to roll!
