Story
Sweet, sweet Eli is a 6 year old Australian Sheperd Mix. Eli has been with High Plains P.A.W. longer than most dogs in our foster program but that is simply because the perfect fit just hasn't come along yet, it is coming though, we can feel it! Eli is looking for a patient home that understands that we all have our own quirks and Eli's quirks are related to having his collar touched and meeting new people. He has told us that he really prefers not to have his collar touched, especially by people he doesn't know. Eli has also told us that he prefers a proper, slow introduction to strangers. In other words, he isn't a fan of random people showing up in his backyard or in his house without an introduction. We can't necessarily blame the guy - we aren't fans of strangers lurking around our homes either! Eli is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Eli's current foster is moving in July so Eli needs a new foster before then - if you think you can provide a temporary OR forever home for Eli, please apply today! ##129415##

Story
This is Morrisey and he was actually adopted about 7+ months ago. He was so loved and cherished in this home. He was an only dog, had grand children to play with and really we felt was in the most amazing home. Until it wasn't. One evening a situation occured between Morrisey and one of the grand children which truly wasn't Morrisey's fault. We has really hoped that the adopters would have even tried to work through the issue but it became apparent they never had any intention on doing so as after they abandoned their dog in the impound vet and surrendered their ownerhip to HPPAW they went out 3 days later, while Morrisey was still sitting sad, scared, confused and alone and bought a new puppy. It was heartbreaking.  When we recieved this lug back he was moribly obese and a shell of the dog we adopted out and our hearts were immediately broken in a thousand peices. He went back to his original foster and while he was happy to see her, she owns several dogs and also has several fosters so this amazing guy is growing more and more defeated by the day. He went from being a cherished only dog with devoted people to living in a home where he gets far less attention and is very limited to where in the house he can be when, so we understand his sadness, goodness we are sad too. No matter he still has the best little wiggling booty around and is seriously an incredibly sweet soul.  We would really love to find a home for him where he is an only dog, he has previously lived in a foster with multiple other dogs but it's an incredibly experienced foster who did super slow introductions. While he has actually spent time daily with children for months, due to the 1 incident, which wasn't his fault, we are looking for a home with limited children. We want him to go to a home thats excited to work with him as he's super eager to please. He is more attached to males than females, but he truly does love everyone. He will try to push his luck and get away with things so someone who is willing to lovingly correct him and understands we give dogs boundaries BECAUSE we love them would be awesome. We really want somewhere that he will be protected and loved. Where he can relax and feel safe. He does love people and truly LOVES rides in the pick up so he may be a great companion for a trucker looking for a canine partner for adventures!  We will be taking him to the vet for a recheck on his Heartowrm status and to just have an overall exam. After that he is searching for a new family for the holidays!!! If you think that could be with you please contact us!  ##144309##

Story
We ran across this dogs horrible intake photo where you can't even tell if it's a tongue or a growth on her face. Then we watched 2 videos of her and her face kept me up at night. We couldn't stop thinking about her, checking her posts to see if they had the update we were all hoping for. As the California shelter continued to fill and there were no updates and she was going to die we reached out to some people to see if we could help in any way. This dog needed a miracle, and being we are firm believers that miracles are just 2nd chances in disguise, we needed to see that she got her miracle, her 2nd chance, because in rescue that's what we do. So, thanks to a lot of awesome ladies, "Operation save Scarlett in CA," commenced, we have overcome the first hurdle in getting her out of the shelter and to the vet, which seemed like it took an act of Congress to get accomplished. She's now current on vaccines, has had flea/tick meds, been dewormed, had a 4dx and thank goodness was negative for everything, been assessed for issues regarding skin/sores on paws and malnourishment, she's being treated for Kennel Cough and finally after undergoing long a long vet stay for Kennel Cough she was spayed and released to a short term foster.  Scarlett is anxiously awaiting transport up to us, she's waiting for YOU! She needs a foster or FURever home to arrive to!  If you feel your home would be a good match for Scarlett please let us know!  $250.00 Adoption Fee  (Which is considered a non refundable donation and being we are a 501c3 organization it is tax deductible. The fee itself is not negotiable, our vets don't negotiate and thus neither do we.) WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY ALL OUR DOGS ARE LOCATED IN FOSTER HOMES.
