Story

Nala has led a hard life...several homes that were only 'temporary' due to no fault of her own. (Well, I guess her prey drive on small animals MIGHT have played a small part) She did live successfully with a senior male dog. Throughout this - she developed skin allergies. After unsuccessful attempts with different foods, a full allergy panel test was done....she is allergic to salmon, oats, milk, pork, green peas and dust! In a home situation - it is hoped her skin will go back to normal. Until then, special shampoos, coconut/olive oil, and periodic allergy shots keep her comfortable and her hair is growing back. Bella is a super awesome dog.....IF she knows and trusts you. She must have been seriously mistreated before being rescued; when approached by strangers and uncomfortable - she lets you know in no uncertain terms. The first is a "look", then a lip curl, then a show of teeth.....a very obvious warning system - she has never bitten anyone. Once she know you and are not going to harm her; she loves to cuddle and give hugs. But this makes it extremely hard to get her adopted. It takes about 10 days for her to warm up to new volunteers. Spudz is a 'lifer' at our shelter...loved by all volunteers, despised by the other dogs. He is always trying to show off and is rambunctious. Before going to the play yard - he has to take a lap through the building, thumbing his nose at all the other dogs. He is VERY athletic and will show you how he can jump a 4 foot fence, wiggle through a closed gate, and counter surf. He deserves a home with an experienced owner and a secure form of containment...he will jump through a screen door and off a deck to chase cats/squirrels/rabbits. Mercury turned a year old as of 3-7-20. She is a loving dog but is very energetic and strong. She needs someone who has the time for her and can get her the exercise she needs. I listed behavioral issues as the reason for rehomeing because she struggles to listen to commands. I believe that if she was with someone who could properly exercise and train her that she would flourish.
