Story
Shiloh is a handsome young boy who is estimated around 3 years of age. Shiloh was completely feral when he arrived with Tier Haven from Hazard, Kentucky. He clearly had never been handled prior to this time and we are unaware of the circumstances surrounding his first few months. Shiloh still has a very long way to go in trusting people. He has zero confidence in himself or the world around him resulting in a very timid and shy dog. Shiloh has no fear aggression and has never lashed out but is going to require a home with the patience to work with him to overcome his past. Shiloh does really well with people from a distance of about 5-7 feet and will linger on the outskirts of interactions but doesn't know what to do when the attention is turned to him. Shiloh will come up and nudge from behind seeking attention but does best when there isn't a big fuss made about it. He has a desire to be around people but is still so unsure of him. Shiloh does great with other dogs and really relies on them for social cues. He was running with another dog - Bentley - who we suspect is his brother. Shiloh was definitely the follower and has stayed true to that role. He does great with other dogs and has learned how to navigate play groups really well. He would really benefit from having another dog or group of dogs in a home to show him the ropes and help him overcome his fears. A volunteer reached out to us about Shiloh within minutes of when he was scheduled to be euthanized - there was certainly a large hand guiding him to safety and we hope to see him fulfill his potential with a loving home. Story
Smoke is a beautiful male German Shepherd who is approximately six years of age. Smoke was kept as a backyard dog with a small fence and surrendered to the shelter when he began escaping the fence. Smoke is on the reserved side when meeting new people however he warms up if you give him just a little bit of time. Once he gets to know you Smoke is a loyal and affectionate dog true to the German Shepherd bread characteristics. Smoke has had no issues allowing visitors to his foster home to assist in bathing him and he really enjoys getting blown dry and brushed out. He has also been well-mannered during trips to the vet although he remains on the reserved side. Once Smoke is relaxed in a new home he is the typical loving and loyal Shepherd. Smoke has spent time around an 8 year old child and is very tolerant of her antics and desire to put hats on him. He has not lived with small children at this time but does well meeting people of all ages when out and about. Smoke is around other German Shepherds & Shepherd mixes in his foster home without any issue. He has learned how to navigate a play group and generally gets along with most dogs. At this time we do not know how Smoke would respond to small dogs or cats however we are happy to have him tested if requested. Overall, Smoke is a loving boy who is ready for a family that is going to show him love and patience has he figures out the dynamics of a new home and continues to learn that the world is larger then a boring backyard. Story
Lucky is a uniquely beautiful guy around 7 years of age. Despite his name Lucky has had a very unlucky life in regards to his homes. Lucky was originally surrendered to the shelter by the (now ex) wife of his very first owner - she was divorcing her husband while he was deployed and unfortunately Lucky was stuck in the cross-hairs. Lucky then found a home with a young couple and their little boy which he adored. However, Lucky did not take to the husband and eventually Lucky's preference for the wife became an issue and he was returned to Tier Haven. Lucky is a loving and sweet boy who is friendly with everyone he meets. Although he hasn't had loyalty in his homes Lucky is a loyal dog who has a lot of love to give. Lucky does great with new people and although he won't always be overly social he is well mannered. Lucky has also lived with a toddler without any issues. Lucky is also great with other dogs and is well versed in social cues. Lucky does have some bad habits if left loose in the house unattended. We are told he destroyed a few rounds of blinds trying to see out the window and helped himself to a shoe collection once. Lucky likes his crate though and is perfectly content to spend the day napping while you are away. Lucky does have minor storm anxiety and prefers to be near his humans if any major storms are rolling through the area. He is an otherwise wonderfully well behaved family member. Lucky is hoping for a turn of his luck and a loving, stable home. If you have a place in your heart for Lucky please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
Gunner is a beautiful long haired Shepherd around 18 months of age who is searching for a home with understanding of German Shepherd traits. Gunner is a very typical German Shepherd who holds immense loyalty for his family and believes in stranger danger. With his foster home Gunner has no problem meeting new people, volunteers, and children 7+years of age. He is able to go through pet stores with them and while aloof he is generally well behaved. We are told that Gunner began displaying reactivity towards new people in a previous home though and recognize that the German Shepherd breed is well-known for requiring structured introductions with new people. Gunner is a beautiful example of the innate protectiveness of the German Shepherd breed as well as their intelligence and tendency to take control of a situation in the absence of a confident handler. With those he knows Gunner is all goofy puppy who loves cuddles, scratches, and playing with toys. Gunner is wonderful for the grooming process and very patient with the brush and blow dry process that keeps his hair healthy. Gunner has lived with other Shepherds and always adjusted well to meeting new dogs and visiting new play groups. He doesn't have a great understanding of social dynamics and was very confused about how to interact with other dogs originally but is learning every day. He isn't overly interested in roughhousing or really playing with any one dog but enjoys entertaining himself with toys. Gunner can be an enforcer sort if the energy is getting out of hand though or if the human reprimands another dog. Gunner likes to amplify whatever is going on and has to have clear boundaries in high energy situations. Gunner is NOT cat friendly or small dog friendly. Gunner is a fun and goofy boy who is looking for a home that values his Shepherd personality and continues his socialization and training to give him the guidance he needs to be the best family companion. Story
Dante is a handsome young Malinois around 2-3 years of age who is full of fun and potential. Dante does everything in true Malinois fashion with lots of zeal and passion. He enjoys meeting new people and is a generally social boy when out in public or at home. He has always been sweet and affectionate with new volunteers when approached. He is generally more concerned with his toy(s) though and isn't the sort to pester for attention. He likes people but is not a people oriented dog. Asking for what he wants, or just taking it, isn't a problem for Dante who routinely swipes bowls or cooking sheets to play with at his whim. He has been living with a child who is very dog savvy and won an unsure Dante over but he has not been exposed to any kids under 6 years of age. Dante's favorite activities include eating metal bowls, chewing wire crates, and pursuing whatever toy might be available if neither of the first two options are open. Dante has worn down his teeth due to his metal eating addiction so he is not a candidate for protection work however Dante has a strong search drive and would be a good possibility for SAR. Like most Malinois Dante has a strong drive overall and is a very energetic guy so he will definitely require a job beyond household companion. Dante is a stereotypical Malinois who will eat the house around him if left bored and jobless.  Dante has been fostered with other dogs with no issues. He is much more concerned with what he can get his mouth on and not so much what the other dogs are doing. He tends to be non-confrontational and will even move to another toy if one of the other dogs swipes his toy. He is not submissive though and doesn't tolerate being pushed around by other dogs. He is a middle line personality in the play yard and has walked with dogs as small as 12 lbs (puppies) and large as 90 + lb Shepherds without issue. Dante does have a strong drive though and is NOT recommended for a home with cats. Dante is searching for a home that is full of adventure and training to keep him on track to the best he can be. Dante will need a home that is well-versed in Malinois or other working breeds as he is not the dog for a first time working dog owner. If you're the home for Dante email us at Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs including adoption fee and process.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
Olivia is a beautiful female Shepherd estimated around 3 years of age who was found as a stray in very poor condition. Olivia had mange, fly bitten ears, and was very underweight when she was picked up by animal control but is well on her way to recovered and ready for a home of her own. Olivia is a strong willed ambassador of German Shepherd breed traits and has a very fun personality if you’re familiar with the breed. Olivia gets along well with most people she meets although she isn’t an overly affectionate girl off the bat. She wants to bond but is still figuring out all the transitions in her world. Olivia is a moderately energetic girl which is to say that she definitely needs exercise but isn’t on the go all the time. She understands the value of a quiet evening but definitely wakes up ready to go each morning. She does well for bathing and the blow dryer as she was getting groomed regularly to help her skin recover. Olivia has spent time with an 8 year old kiddo and always done really well. She has met kids when at pet stores and been friendly but does not currently live with young children. Olivia does foster with other German Shepherds and is learning how to be good sharing space with other dogs. She was very defensive and had obviously had to fight for her survival for a while. She does well with the other large dogs that ignore her and is able to go on group walks with no issues. She is not good with smaller dogs and we would not recommend her for a home with cats. Olivia is a diamond in the rough who has clearly been let down by humans in the past. Despite this Olivia has an open heart and is seeking a family that can guide her through becoming a loved family member. If you’re the home for Olivia please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Adoptapet.com/tierhaven for FAQsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
