Hi there, my name is Luna. I'm a 1 year, 8 month old French Mastiff looking for a new home to call my own. I am at the Santa Barbara campus, just waiting for my new family to come and fall in love with me. I am really friendly, I love to go up and say hi to people. I have lived with kids, but I am pretty big and sometimes I forget that and I may jump up on the little ones. I like plush squeaky toys, so I hope my new home has plenty of those for me to play with. I'm also pretty motivated by food, so we can have fun with training, too (I already know sit and we can work on more!). Have you been looking for a large, goofy, sweet, kinda drooly pooch to add to your life? Great! Come on in and ask to meet me, Luna, today! Interested in meeting me? When I am adopted, I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. My adopters will receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam and our partners at Purina will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home. Transfer of animals may be available between our Santa Maria and Santa Barbara Campuses. If an animal you would like to meet is at the campus further away from you, just let us know when you email, and we will be in touch with you if a transfer is available. Our adoption fees help support our community programs and the next animal who needs our help!

Meet Jenny Penny! Jenny's name was Penny, but we already have several Penny's, so we called her Jenny. That quickly turned into Jenny Penny, because several of us already knew her as Penny! She is 10 years old and weighs 80 lbs. So! Want to hear her story?! Jenny Penny was impounded as a stray at Humane Society of Imperial County in September 2018. That date is correct. She was kenneled with various dogs during that year and a half and always did great! We were cautioned that she should eat alone, but we already do that anyways for safety. We finally exited Jenny Penny on March 24th, 2020 and she is a darling! She has been excellent with every single large and small dog she has met, and she is good with cats too! Volunteer, Kim Dollins, took Jenny Penny on a hike this week and she enjoyed the fresh air. We keep exiting these darn near perfect dogs who have lingered at HSIC for sometimes years. It really goes to show how poor the foot traffic is at that shelter and is a testament to helping animals from places where the euthanasia rate is low, but would love to see their dogs having a better quality of life. We took her to High Valley Veterinary Hospital for an exam, and our girl is in heat. The shelter had recently done surgery to remove some masses and hemagiomas on her tummy but several have grown back again. We plan to spay her and try to remove more of the ulcerated blood blisters once she is done with her cycle. On April 2nd, we sent Jenny Penny on a Frosted Fling witih two dogs and two cats, the ultimate test! We will tell you all about how she does in a home environment in two weeks.
