Story
We don't know a lot about young Kovu's life before his rescue. His past history has caused him to be nervous and unsure in certain situations. It has taken some time, but when he starts to relax, he really enjoys a good cuddle and some one on one attention. Kovu is smart and has learned quickly that being on a leash and going for a walk is a positive and enjoyable experience. His foster mom has been working daily on his leash training (all training in general) and because of her, he has made great strides and continues to make daily progress. When Kovu is very excited or gets over stimulated, he can play rough with other dogs and so he will need an experienced handler. Kovu is not submissive and will not run away. He plays nicely with dogs that he feels comfortable with both big and small, but his foster mom always monitors play time. He has very good recall. Kovu really wants to be respectful, but trust is hard for him and he struggles with being told what to do at times. Kovu will need somebody with large breed Shepherd/Husky experience who will not put him in a situation where he's going to feel threatened and be on the defensive. Someone that knows how to handle a dog with an unknown past. No cats. According to Kovu, cats are meant for chasing. It is very important for Kovu to have structure in his environment and daily exercise filled with plenty of fun activities. We think he needs a job because he is not a typical family/house dog. The more active he has during the day, the more content and relaxed he will feel in the evening.Kovu has definitely come a long way with training, but if allowed, he pushes boundaries and so on-going training is a must. He is a beautiful deserving dog, and although he wasn't treated the way he should have been as a puppy/young adult, he is worth the effort and time it takes to find him a wonderful home.

Story
Name: Beauty Gender: Female Age: Born Aug 24 2016 Approx.size/weight when full grown: 62 lbs Large height Breed: Shephard Mix History: She came into care early 2018 from Manitoba with a litter of pups. Shortly we found out that she had Heartworm. The treatment was hard but Beauty did great and in Dec 2018 finished her treatment successfully. Beauty is a energetic dog who loves to go out on adventures. It doesnt matter where you want to take her, if you want to leave the house she is up for it. She does also enjoy cuddling up to you on the couch or in bed for naps. Beauty gets along with everyone although can get a bit excited meeting new people and tries to give everyone kisses on the face but as she is introduced to more people she is learning to stay calm. One of Beautys favourite things is to receive belly rubs! She would love to lay there all day as long as you rub her belly. Beauty is good with cats as long as they do not try and run away from her constantly as she thinks they are playing with her and will chase them. She is dog selective so is ideally looking for a home with no other dogs, however she has been going to class to work on this and has already made major progress impressing her teachers. She would do best with someone who is willing to continue taking her to classes to help her continue to learn how to be around other dogs. Due to Beauty’s battle with heartworm she does have a heart murmur. Which isn’t surprising, infestations of heartworm can cause permanent damage to the heart even once fully cleared. As of now it is not at a point that our vets feel we can medicate as she’s not currently showing signs of heart failure. However it is something that her new home will need to understand and watch for. Follow her on Instagram @Synthias_Foster_Animals

NEW ADOPTION PROCESS: Please fill in the Dog Lifestyle Survey found on the How to Adopt page on www.calgaryhumane.ca (please include my name and animal reference number) and e-mail it to adopt@calgaryhumane.ca if you are interested in adopting me! Serious inquiries only. Hello! Hello! My name is Callie and I'm looking for an active and engaging household. I have TONS of energy so I'll need lots of play time and fun mental exercises to keep me nice and smart. Because of my high energy I'll also needs lots of space indoors where we will live together! I sure love to woof! My ideal home with not have any shared walls, I'm known as quite the singer. I prefer to ride solo, no other small animals or dogs in the home please. I like to hang with just the humans as other animals are just TOO exciting for me. On that note, human siblings would be cool but they would need to be at least 10 years old as I can become quite excitable at times. I can be a little skittish around loud noises, especially around traffic, so a home that is not on a busy street is preferred! If you have dog experience, love the outdoors and have a large fenced yard, I think we might be a great match!
