Story
Sweet and smart, energetic and comical, I like to be a jack of all trades. I ended up in a big shelter in Texas and they tossed a little scared puppy into my kennel and said here's your buddy. I am very happy they did though. I needed a friend during that scary time- and then when I went on a really long car ride to Nebraska. Now that I am here though, I don't think is soo bad. I get to run and play with my doggo friends and I hope to have a family of my own very very soon! I love meeting dog friends and would love to have one in my forever home too... so if you can make that happen, that would be great!

Story
Meet Lil Brownie JuM Recently, me and my previous family had a series of extremely unfurtunate events. My owner was gone due to something called cancer. That was very sad times. Then the rest of my family got evicted. I think evicted means you cannot live in your house anymore. When my family moved their things out of the house and left, I stayed in the back yard. It was all a blur of confusion for me. I missed my Dad very much he was a best friend to me and I didn’t understand why I couldn’t see him anymore. Why did my family not have a house anymore. When was he coming back to get me??? The neighbors were coming over and dropping food to me. I kept sneaking out of the back yard. I was crossing a busy traffic road to sleep in the shelter of a large drain pipe. I felt safe in my little pipe cave, but all the humans said this was not a safe life for me. A brave girl came and picked all 58 pounds of me up. She wasn’t my Dad but she sure was strong. She said “Don’t worry Brownie, I will find you a new family so you won’t ever have to sleep in a drain pipe again.” She took me home, gave me a bath, or reverse that, I think she bathed me first, so I wouldn’t stinky up her house! I got checked out by a Dogtor and he said in pawfessional terms that I am fit as a fiddle at 8 months old and 58 pounds. Now that I have no worries, I am foot lose and fancy free, metafurically speaking, I am actually not free at all. I never leave the house or yard without a leash and harness. You must use a well fitting harness on me, as I will reenact every Crocodile Dundee scene and wiggle my way right out of your silly regular leash and collar grip. Foster Mommy says I am 50% Good Girl and 25% Bear Cub and 25% Those Roley Poley Bugs That Ball Up When You Touch Them. But she isn’t a pawfessional so you shouldn’t believe that nonscents. I am likely a German Shepherd mix, but I am listed as a Black Mouth Cur mix too because my dark chocolate face mask and baby deer colored coat might appeal to lovers of that breed too. I love to play fetch with ropes and fuzzy balls. I will admit, I defurnitely needs some pawlishing up on my manners. Foster Mommy is working hard to teach me but with so many new faces and new places, I am quite distracted. Plus I am only one year old and my brain keeps telling me there are more interesting mischiefs than manners. I really need a home that is furmiliar with the intelligence of a German Shepherd breed. I have a strong personality and if you don’t firmly keep me in line, I will be taking over as CEO of your household. Chief of Everything Officer. Just call me la jefa, boss lady. Foster Mommy says that I shouldn’t worry about getting everything right just yet, since my life has been turned upside down. But she isn’t babying me either! I promise to be good in another stable home once I get some consistency. I am great with other dogs and kids. My previous family had small children from 3 years to 10 years. I was used to get attention from them and would be happy to be a loyal family dog again. It is furst and furmost that I be an indoor dog again, the yard life was not suitable for me, I was very melancollie there, or melansheppie in my case. Thank you for considering me. Basics: Lil Brownie JuM- female, 8 months in March, 58 lbs so might grow to 70 pounds, German Shepherd/Blackmouth Cur mix, good with kids, good with dogs, fawn coat with dark mask, active, smart, loyal, loving, alpha type of personality, needs some polishing on basic training, her family fell on very hard times and she needs a new stable and loving home. Story
Sweet Lola is officially ready for adoption or a foster to adopt family! She’s a beautiful, 1 year old, female German Shepherd. Lola is dog/kid friendly, crate trained, and housebroken with regular trips outside. Everybody loves this little gem of a girl! Lola loves dog toys, car rides, and being with her foster mama. Medical details... She came to us with a tilted head which makes her balance be a little off at times, but it doesn’t bother her one bit. We saw 3 separate vets and none were too concerned with it. No injury or pain, so they thought maybe idiopathic. Lola had heart surgery at Kansas State in January for patent ductus arteriosus. It is a congenital defect common in German Shepherds. Without the surgery she would’ve ended up with congestive heart failure and/or heart disease at a very young age. The surgery fixed that. She has a follow up echocardiogram scheduled in April, which we will take care of. Lola also has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. It’s another condition common in German Shepherds in which the pancreas doesn’t produce adequate digestive enzymes, with the result that food is poorly digested and absorbed resulting in loose stools and weight loss IF not fed a strict diet with added enzymes. There is no surgery for it. We just feed her the food that is made specifically for dogs with digestive issues (relatively inexpensive) and mix pancreatic enzymes into each meal (also relatively inexpensive when ordered online), and we don’t have problems. She will probably always be on the slim side. We will go over everything more in depth with the lucky adopters. Lola is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for her forever family! Please only apply for Lola if you will be able to keep her on her digestive food/enzymes, and if you have a fence. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $300 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs.  We do not ship dogs. All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranaged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.

Story
ntroducing Koda AC Okay kids, joke is on you, I’m gonna tell Santa about this. *jots a few notes down on her clip board* I’m looking like Elf on the Shelf 3 months too late, but it’s never too late or too soon to get on that naughty list, trust me, I speak from experience. Thank you to the Human who donated these free costumes today at the Adoption Event. And by thank you, I mean no thank you m’am, but I’m being pawlite. At least I didn’t have to wear bunny antlers like my bruther did. I really don’t mind looking like a garden gnome, anything to keep the kids entertained. I’ll consider this payback for last week’s howling epawsode. In my defense they wanted to start me on “crate training” and I was like “no thanks, this isn’t my style”. Kinda like these booties. Speaking of booties, I’m on step one of potty training. I’m a 10 week old female German Shepherd mix pup. I know, I look more like an unspotted snow leopard than a German Shepherd, but my Mom really is a white German Shepherd doggie. My father is unknown but you can just tell people he is Buddy the Elf from the movie. I was born in a Foster House and I’ve been handled by kids, so I know the dealio. I’m known as the wild child out of the litter of 10. My hobbies include biting my siblings ears and running fast to instinkgate a battle, attempting to climb out of the puppy pen to find some mischiefs to do and snuggling in cradles made of human arms, still attached of course. I’m going to be a large doggie when I grow up, awkwardly large of course like my Father Buddy the Elf. You will have to teach me all about being a good girl so I can always make the nice list, in return, I’ll get you a lifetime supply of spaghettis and maple syrup. Do we have a deal? Koda AC- female, one of a litter of 10 pups from a white German Shepherd mom, 10 weeks, will be large 60 lbs plus likely, good with dogs, good with kids, smart and active, determined, loves snuggles after she’s had activities. GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter. Our puppies are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. Story
Juno is an amazingly sweet ornery dog. She was born Nov 24, 2018. We adopted her when she was 8 weeks old. She was diagnosed with hip dyplasia when she was 9 months old. It only seems to bother her if she has to do a lot of stairs. She still goes on long walks and moves around well. She was initially kennel trained, but after having hip dysplasia we let her sleep outside of her kennel and she does well. She will chew if left alone for long periods of time, walking her decreases the likeliness of this. She loves to snuggle and get lots of attention. She has the best personality. She got along very well with our other dog (lab, who is rehomed), and does fabulous with children. Our hope is for her to find a home that will love her just as much as we do!!!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Peyton is a super handsome boy who ended up as a stray in a very crowded kill shelter in Oklahoma.  He was Heartworm positive, which made him unadoptable and put him at the top of the urgent list. Lucky for him, he is an incredibly sweet boy, and the shelter volunteers adored him, and fought very hard to buy him a little extra time while they sought rescue for him. When they asked us to help, we couldn't say no...and the rest is history! Peyton has now successfully completed his Heartworm treatment. He is fully recovered, and ready for an active forever home of his own! This is how Peyton's awesome foster dad describes this sweet boy: 'Peyton is a great puppy that has improved a lot in the few months I’ve had him, and he is only going to keep getting better. He still has a lot to learn but he picks up things quickly, especially when treats are involved. He LOVES food! He responds well to his name. Known commands that he excels in are sit, lay down, drop it, go to crate. Commands he knows but need polishing are stay, leave it and to come when called. By far his best trick is waiting patiently for meals until you say “ok”. He loves playing tug of war and fetch with his kong toys and tennis balls but his favorite is a knotted rope. I have not had luck with anything that squeaks since they only last about 15 minutes before he destroys them! When we’re done playing, he likes to switch back and forth between spending time on my (his) bed or in his crate for naps. He’s loves being petted but only on his terms (in typical German Shepherd fashion!). Sometimes he likes having some alone time, but when it's time for bed, Peyton couldn’t be more cuddly and likes to take up a minimum of 70 percent of my (his) bed. Peyton has been great with everyone that he has met thus far. However, because of his large size (80lbs) and the fact that he has a tendency to try to greet everyone with puppyish enthusiasm, he might do best around adults for now (he is working on not jumping up in excitement). He is great on car rides and loves going on them. He’s very calm and just gazes out the car windows. He is great on walks, super excited and pulls at first but calms down quickly and enjoys being out. He used to be startled by traffic and loud noises, but he is getting more used to those, and is doing better every day! Peyton does great in his crate while I'm at work. He’s potty-trained and lets me know when he needs out. I know it’s just a matter of time before he turns into a well-rounded pup. With an active adopter, and maybe a doggy brother or sister to help keep him occupied, my Okla-homie will do amazing!'Like all German Shepherds, this sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that he needs. Because of that, Peyton's ideal owner will have prior GSD, or similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.Peyton's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (treated if positive), and microchipped. Learn more about the adoption process and requirements, and apply at: http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
