Animal Welfare organizations have been deemed as essential business, and so we are able to continue our operation.    However, we are taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously and are following the government guidelines and implemting our own precautions.    Meet & Greets will continue to be on an appointment basis only. They will take place either in the outside enclosed area, or the large room at the end of he kennels. There is a no contact, other than with the dog in place and children will not be allowed out of their vehicles. TATIANA-Girl was saved  from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine  TATIANA-Girl is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 4 December 2015 and at the time of rescue in December 2019 weighed around 78 pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.   TATIANA-Girl arrived at the rescue on Thursday, 19th December and was very depressed, she had been pregnant when she was spayed and so I am sure takes a much bigger toll on surgery and her emotional well-being.   After about a week she started to perk up, she had a meet and greet with some other dogs and really came to life when she was playing with the young teenage children and loved getting the attention from the adults.   I put her in a kennel with big ACE a very shy male GSD and they soon became best friends, him clearly feeling secure with her confidence. I brought them over to the house to live with my dogs and rescue's up here and she is having a great time - she is still very close to big Ace, but enjoys playing, chasing and wrestling with the other dogs - she is great with all dogs, although a little more curious around smaller dogs, not sure if I would trust her with a cat, and she has been great with some 5 week old small breed pups we have at the rescue.   She uses the dog door to go outside, eats, drinks and sleeps with all the other dogs, has never shown any sign of aggression and is a total sweetheart. She needs an active family who can give her the lifestyle that she needs, lots of mental stimulation, lots of adventures, walks, treks, road trips and all things fun.   WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMENT HOW SHE WILL BE AROUND CATS OR LIVESTOCK.   TATIANA-Girl is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.   This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.   If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.   Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.   https://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/forms/form?formid=5838     ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Jenny Cope (giveadogahome@live.com) for more information about this pet. &#226&#128&#139 MARGIE-G was saved from the high kill shelter in Texas in early 2018. She was extremely emaciated and in rough condition, but she was so loving and affectionate. At the rescue she settled in great and it wasn't long before she was playing grandma to a female German Shepherds 3 week old pups.  MARGIE-G has a date of birth of 15 February 2009 and is fully vetted. Sadly for this sweet old girl it is a case of de-ja-vue. As you will read Margie after being at the rescue for several months was adopted, however was brought back after a year for biting at someone in the yard where she was tied up. She was back at the rescue for a few months with no incidents and was adopted to another family - sadly after 3 months she was brought back for becoming protective/aggressive and biting several people over the course of the 3 months. Margie has bad eyesight and so this could be part of the reason she is snapping out, however, like before since being back at the rescue she has greeted people and is so happy with the other dogs - she will bark, as most dogs do and especially dogs with failing sight, but it is more of an all show and will stop instantly when told no. For safety reasons we are looking for a family that is willing to take steps to ensure Margie is not put in a position where she can bite anyone - someone who is willing to muzzle train her, to put her in a crate, or other room when people come round, or keep her on a leash to enable full control and ensure she is crated when left in the house alone. As mentioned her old age, with failing eye-sight means that she might not be able to focus properly and recognise someone as her family and nip out at them so it really is important for families to take this seriously and take the time and care to put these effective yet simple steps in place. Margie is an amazing girl who has been failed by humans on many occassions and being 11 years she is definitely counting down the years she has left on this earth. She deserves the love and security a family can give her. She is still active considering her age and issues and she is so excited when she see's me in the morning - she loves to chase and play with the other dogs. BIO from Previous adoption! After being here a few months, gaining weight, starting to enjoy life and enjoying playing with other dogs, she was adopted in May 2018. Unfortunately in the middle of August 2019 I received a message that Margie-G, who had been renamed Maggie, needed to be returned as she had become extremely protective of her home and her owner. Upon talking to her owner and just by knowing Margie's personality and of course the breed it became clear that she had been allowed to become "alpha" and so with being alpha comes naturally responsibility for dogs, as with humans. They must protect their family (their pack) and they must protect their home (their territory). Aggression like this doesn't happen over night and she would have taken control gradually, with growling, hackles up, barking and such - and had this been stopped and her made clear this behaviour was not needed, nor would be tolerated, there would have been no problems and she would have accepted that she was not alpha of her humans and so no need to protect her family and home. However, it wasn't stopped and it progressed to where the owner was scared of having anyone in her home and so returned her. Since being at the rescue Margie has shown no signs of aggression or even wanting to be alpha, she has settled back in, although is still stressed and clearly missing her family life, but she is good being amongst other dogs, although not ideal for her age. She is a very sweet, loving, affectionate girl, who when allowed to come in my bedroom, will jump up on the bed and settle into a deep sleep. She will give kisses and just enjoy getting lots of love and affection. Margie is 10 years old and with age comes health problems, she does have severe arthiritis in her hips and knee, she is on pain medications and I have some natural supplements that I am giving her to help with the joints and general health. She had been fed Alpo with her family, however, since this is an extremely low quality food we immediately switched her over to a high quality senior diet of both dry and wet food mixed together - she seems to enjoy it. She is house trained and will let me know when she wants to go out. Considering her hips are in such bad shape she gets around great, she does jump up on the bed and climbs stairs without hesitation, however, this is not encouraged and only done when absolutely necessary, or without me knowing. Margie really needs a quiet home and family where she can relax and enjoy her old age. The rescue is very loud and busy with lots of dogs running and playing and having fun and it can be stressful for her.  We are looking for someone who has experience with GSD / Working Breed dogs. They must be confident in being in control and not allowing the dog to think they need to be in control. As mentioned above, she became very protective and that needs to be not allowed anymore. She needs to be not only taught that it is not needed, nor acceptable behaviour, but precautions need to be taken, she needs to be either crated when people come round, put in a secure room, or have a leash and muzzle on - when dogs become protective there really is no leeway giving them opportunity. This will also show her that you are in charge and can see she is not needed. Having her under control any sign of growlng or negative behaviour can be corrected immediately and so she will learn quickly. With the right family I do not think her protectiveness will be difficult to get under control, experience, and consistency is what is needed.  Then of course she has her arthritis so we are looking for a family that is financial stable to get her any treatment needed in the future and be strong enough now and over the next few years to be able to support her hips when she needs to go outside. Maybe a belly support will be needed, or even the possibility of a wheel-chair - all possible options that the family should be willing to consider and move forward on should it help her in the future.  At least annual x-rays and senior blood panels need to be done to keep on top of her health since she a senior girl and although she is a tough cookie, I would think she has a few more years at the most, but it is critical her health is monitored regularly. So a family that understands that and is willing to make her last few years the best ever and do what is needed, at whatever cost for her comfort. She needs a high quality diet to suit her age, breed, any medical needs and of course ability and ease of eating. Home cooking would be PERFECT for her, but a high quality senior diet is needed. I know there is a perfect family out there - she doesn't need LOTS of exercise, but she does need to get out and move her hips so that they don't seize up and be even more painful. If anyone is interested in adopting her - think seriously about the commitment and her issues - it is easy to fall in love with a sad story and want to make it right - but please be sure you are able and 100% committed to her FOREVER.  If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. They will take place either in the outside enclosed area, or the large room at the end of he kennels. There is a no contact, other than with the dog in place and children will not be allowed out of their vehicles. XIAO-HEI was saved from the legal meat trade in China in the Beijing area. She, her 10 siblings and mother were saved by a wonderful rescue lady in China and together we are working on getting them all to the safety of GaDaH-CHINA in Sebec, Maine. We pay to get these dogs vetted, tested, quarantined and all other requirements to import them to the safety of the rescue in Sebec, Maine. The adoption fee's vary slightly depending on the weight and size of the dogs. XIAO-HEI has a reduced adoption fee is US $550 and covers the costs we incur to save this precious souls.  Xiao-Hei's siblings have all been adopted and having been here at the rescue now for over a year, she is wondering why no one wants to love her. Xiao-Hei is a gentle, shy girl, she is going to need someone that understands she has only known the rescue since she arrived in the US and so new people, places and a new home and life is going to be a huge transition for her. She enjoys the company of other dogs and is always snuggled up to one or a few of her friends, so we really would prefer her to go to a home with another dog, which would help her transition, however, if you have the family, lifestyle and understanding to help her transition then we will of course accept applications from families with no other pets.  Xiao-Hei weighs around 35 pounds and is fully grown, she might fill out a little but it is doubtful she will get much bigger, maybe just a little heavier. She loves to run, play and wrestle with other dogs and although she has a petite frame, she is just as rambunctious when playing as he other dogs. She uses the dog door to go out and play and do her business, but she is not going to know to let you know she wants to go outside, so families should expect a couple of accidents whilst she makes her transition, but she does know to go outside, so I am confident she would learn quickly. She is very shy and will stand back and watch what is going on when new people come over, so she is going to need a patient and understanding family, but away from the rescue she will I am sure adapt. She is going to need to be taken to places to be socialized which might be stressful or scary for her, so again a family that has the time, the patience and understanding to work with her. Xiao-Hei has been through the export and import quarantine requirements from China to the US. She has her rabies, core vaccines/lepto, heartworm, tick-disease and screw worm tested negative. She has been de-wormed, micro chipped and received any necessary monthly preventatives. She has an estimated date of birth of 2 January 2018 and she weighs around 24.3 pounds and in September 2019 weighed around 35-40 pounds.  Her mother we believe is a Belgian Shepherd and so she is most likely a Belgian Shepherd Dog Mix, we have no idea what breed the father is. It is up to you to look at her and decide what breed you think she could be. She arrived in the United States on 23rd August 2018, landing at JFK and then was driven up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We are looking for families with knowledge of experience of working breed needs to ensure they get a good balance of mental and physical exercise. Xiao-Hei is very shy initially and would benefit from another dog as a companion, when she is comfortable she is a super friendly, loving and affectionate girl. Out of her 10 siblings that came to the US, she was the first to become friendly and trust. She can be cautious, but trust is gained more quickly than her siblings.. WE DO NOT HAVE CATS OR LIVESTOCK AT THE RESCUE SO ARE UNABLE TO COMMENT ON HOW SHE WILL ACT NEAR OR AROUND THEM. She does use the dog door to get in and out and does go outside to do her business. I do not know if she would let you know she needs to go out since she has 24/7 access to the outside, but she is extremely smart and do not think it would take long to learn, so a few initial accidents in her new home whilst she adjusts and gets used to her new routine and has her family teach her to let them know she wants to go outside should be expected. Until arriving at GaDaH, she had never been an inside dog. She would benefit from a family who understands the importance of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. She rides good in the car, but has only been with her siblings, never has she been alone. She gets on good with other dogs  and would benefit from the companionship in her transition, so a family with another dog would be great, however, if that is not the case, then play-dates with other dogs would be extremely beneficial for her.   She needs an active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl when her confidence and trust has been gained.  Once familiar with her humans she is friendly and loving, and although I have not seen her with children, given time and space her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours.&#226&#128&#139Throughout all that this beautiful soul has been through, she has not once shown any kind of aggression. We post in other states and in Canada to ensure our saved dogs get as much exposure as possible and the perfect families are found. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.  https://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/forms/form?formid=5838 Adoptive families MUST travel to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and dog they are interested in adopting and if all goes well, take him/her home with them to start their new wonderful life.&#226&#128&#139 Click here to watch a video of XIAO-HEI - CHINA SAVE.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

He is very shy and I believe he has most likely been abused, mistreated or neglected due to him being very shy of people. He does gain confidence when with his room mate TATIANA who has grown to be a great friend for him and helped him come out of his shell. He is a very gentle boy and although very shy has not shown any signs of aggression, he would rather walk away if he is uneasy. He is going to need a family that understands that he is going to need time to adjust and learn to trust. I am sure in a family environment with a loving, gentle family his confidence will grow and he would make a fantastic addition to a family. I feel he would be great with children as long as they are able to leave him alone and let him come round in his own time - I can see him loving them dearly and in time being their best friend.   WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMENT HOW HE WILL BE AROUND CATS OR LIVESTOCK.   All dogs are fed  Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison.  Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor’s second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars.   ACE is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.    This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Story
Otto is a 1 and a half year old arrived at the shelter with extreme injuries. Unfortunately, he had been severely mutilated by his previous owners! You would never be able to tell that he had such a sad puppyhood because he is just the sweetest and most affectionate dog. He is described as noble and friendly. He’s great with children, people and other dogs and is very fun loving! Otto lived in a shelter in Mexico that was a house converted to a shelter. As he’s spent all his life outdoors, he may need help with toilet training and will need help with leash training. He’s an incredible dog looking for a family with all the love and patience to teach him how to become a “regular” dog. He has not been in a home with furniture or his own toys, as most dogs have.
