Story
Scout is a very handsome, 4 year old German Shorthair Pointer mix. He’s affectionate, very intelligent and loves to go on outdoor adventures. He is a loyal, devoted companion and will protect your home and property. You’re thinking , “What’s wrong with him?” Scout is an amazing dog, he just needs that certain someone and the right environment in order to manage his behavior. He does have one “but”, good news, it is manageable. Scout feels home is where the heart is and his home is his castle. He knows occasionally his human will have guests visiting and he needs to accept that, but if he feels they have visited long enough he may begin to show anxiety and feel uncomfortable. Dogs communicate differently than humans. Scout may nip to let you know it’s time to go, so as a management tool, Scout needs an enclosed environment of his own to rest and relax away from guests. This can be a crate, a dog kennel, a room, the garage or an outside fenced area. This form of behavioral management is being a responsible pet owner and must be Scout and his human’s normal routine when guests visit. Our trainer will work with any person interested in Scout. The ideal and only situation for Scout is : A person who lives outside of town, on a piece of property, a farm, or a vineyard. A person who feels home is where the heart is and his home is his castle. A person who loves his/her privacy and the companionship of “man’s best friend.” A person who has little to no visitors and no children. A person who does not have any cats, because Scout feels cats should not exist, so No cats. We found out about Scout’s behavioral issue the hard and it makes his placement limited. Scout has gone to two foster homes which unfortunately did not work out because of this behavior. We now know exactly what type of environment Scout requires in order to place him in the appropriate home. We keep our dogs until that perfect home is found, until then, he is a resident here at the rescue. Outside of Scout’s castle, he is a happy, carefree, friendly dog. He is looking for someone with the above living situation or very close to it and someone: who loves the outdoors as much as he doeswho enjoys biking, Scout runs steady ‘alongside a bike. who enjoys jogging, Scout is an excellent jogging partner. who loves to play in the water, Scout loves the water who loves to hang out and relax on the couch If you or someone you know is looking for or may be in need of a loyal, devoted, protective, best friend that will always be there for you and never let you down, always listen when you need to talk, always be at home waiting to greet you with a smile and a kiss, and a companion to keep you warm at night, then Scout could possibly be that boy. Please share this post and ask your friends to share this post, Scout deserves another chance at finding his forever home. People have asked why put so much effort and time into this one “not so perfect” dog when there are so many “perfect” dogs that need rescuing? Well, maybe it’s because Scout was put in situations which set him up to fail, and maybe the owners did not disclose some important information when we accepted him into our rescue, and maybe because I am with this dog everyday and see how he is and understand his behavioral disability, and maybe because if I can’t find him a home, then I feel I have failed Scout and he lives his life here at the rescue, but because I know there is someone out there for every dog, it just takes a little longer to find them. Every dog deserves a forever home, the right forever home. PLEASE help Scout find that perfect person and home.
