Story
Alpine is 2 and a half years old. We adopted him at 8 weeks old off of petfinder. He is very sweet, loving, friendly, and smart. He is very good with potty training, he will hold it for a long time and never have accidents in the house. He loves all humans, dogs, cats, and is good with babies/children. He is a good guard dog, sounding very scary, but is friendly once he knows the person is an invited guest. He is very high energy, which is the main reason we are looking to rehome him. We feel like we are not able to give him the exercise and attention he needs to be happy. Our life plans have changed in a way that makes it so we don't have enough time to play with him and train him. He would absolutely love a dog friend! We have cats and he is friends with them but he is lacking canine companionship. He needs a home with a lot of opportunity to run and play outside. An active family with other pets and kids would be a great fit for him! He is trained to an invisible fence.

Story
Meet Caity! This beautiful 5 year old golden mix came to us locally, matted, dirty, and extremely scared. Caity was also sick upon entering our program. But, the saddest thing we quickly noted was Caity's fear of humans, especially men. This told us so much about her past but we have been working hard to change her future. Sometimes dogs enter our program and they simply need time to decompress and heal. Caity has spent several months with us and has made significant progress. She will now allow her foster mom to handle her, including giving her a much needed bath and grooming. Poor Caity's skin was significantly compromised and thankfully with bathing, regular grooming and good nutrition, this has significantly improved. Caity has also progressed and will now come to her foster mom, seeking attention. She will allow all touching. It has required extensive time, patience and rehabilitation to teach Caity that hands and feet are positive. Caity also has made progress and is now crate trained! Caity had an extreme and fearful reaction to the crate. With patience, time and training, Caity will now enter the crate on command. She will even remain there quietly for several hours. Caity does not need to be crate trained as she is good in the home and is not destructive. Caity is in a foster home with several other dogs and gets along with everyone. We would not place Caity in a home with cats as she does not like them. Caity will need a loving and patient forever home. With a little kindness and patience, Caity will reward you with a loving and sweet companion. Given Caity's fear of humans, she will need a quieter home without children or older children over the age of 12. Caity would prefer to go to a home with another dog as she learns to trust humans by watching the other dogs in the home. Caity is house broken, spayed and up to date on vaccines. Caity has been treated and continues to see the vet but we are happy to report that she is on the road to a full recovery! If you are interested in meeting Caity, please complete an application at our website, www.helporphanpuppies.org. Please note our adoption requirements and feel free to contact us with any questions. ** PLEASE NOTE: ALL PETS ON OUR SITE ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. WE UPDATE THIS LIST DAILY** We do not mark a dog as adopted until all steps are completed, including a home visit. **NOTE: ALL of our dogs are fostered locally a minimum of 2 weeks. Adopting a dog that has been fostered locally is a very important consideration. Animals that are fostered locally in private homes allow the fosters to learn more about the dogs personality and allows for making the best match possible. Also, animals that are transported into our area and placed directly without being fostered locally often carry diseases, including parvo and distemper. Animals can also become ill on transports to the northeast, as they are exposed to other animals in route. If you have any questions regarding these diseases and the risks of not adopting locally, please contact your vet. PLEASE consider any group that does not require a home visit. If they are not conducting a home visit consider if they truly care about their dogs. As an organization, we invest a significant amount of time into all of our dogs, including crate training, house breaking, obedience training, and determining each dog's personality to consider making the best match possible. Help Orphan Puppies is registered with the New York State Department of Agriculture and our registration number is RR047.
