Story
We have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one or two of our other great dogs. Thank you!
SGRR was contacted about a pair of dogs in the Troy, AL area whose owner had passed away. Family was there temporarily, but lived in Missouri and could not take the dogs with them. We learned they are a mother and daughter pair who love each other very much. We will find them a home where they can remain together.
This is their story: Patty is an 8-year old purebred Golden Retriever who had an affair with the AKC-Registered Bulldog who lived next door. They had a daughter, Bunnie, now 7-years-old, who is a tall and pretty black and white dog with a beautiful smile.
Our lead Southern volunteer, Lisa, found both dogs to be really sweet and they warmed up to her quickly, especially outside. Patty especially loved Lisa’s treat bag and followed her closely! Patty sits on command and both girls seem fine walking on leash, although both followed Lisa closely in the fenced area without a leash. Bunnie is the more reserved of the two, but quickly warms up. It is easy to see they have been loved as they are such nice, easy dogs.
Patty and Bunnie are very bonded. When the vet separated them to be examined they were unhappy being apart even for that short time. They eat next to each other with no competition and it is fun to see how sweet they are together. They met Mike, the cat, at the vet clinic and both were fine with him, sniffing him and then walking away.
Patty is 8 years old and weighs 60 lbs. She has a thick golden coat and is just starting to show some white on her pretty face. She came to us with ear infections and parasites, for which she is being treated. She will have some bad upper molars removed and will be treated for heartworm. She also will be vaccinated and micro-chipped.
Bunnie is 7 years old and is a stunning black and white dog weighing 76 lbs. She is tall and broad across her chest like a bulldog, has a Golden-shaped head, with a pretty black and white face. Bunnie also tested positive and for parasites and heartworm, and has been vaccinated and micro-chipped. Both Patty and Bunnie will be receiving “split treatment” for their heartworm, which takes longer but is safer for them as they are seniors. We expect them to be ready for their forever home in mid-April.
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.
If you would like to have a sweet pair of dogs in your life and be part of Bunnie and Patty's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact the Adoption Committee to be considered to adopt Bunnie and Patty.

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
