Story
I hate writing this, but I know Haze needs a better home where he gets more attention. I love him, and wish I didn't have to do this. In the last 3 years, Haze has been a great dog who has come a long way since we met at the shelter. He was withdrawn, defensive, and very scared in the shelter. He is still very nervous when going to the vet. At home he's always very interested to be around family, and behaves very calmly indoors. He is neither food nor toy possessive, and responds well to treat training. He does best around adults and older children, and interacts well with certain dogs. He has spent extensive time around my parents' small dog, and plays well with her. He has been attacked by other dogs before, and will stand his ground, but is otherwise friendly. He is house/crate trained, and just wants to be within visual range of you. He will fetch with balls and sticks, knows basic commands, but still pulls on the leash. I wish I could keep him.

Story
Please contact Jo Ellen (hwbdogrescue@aol.com) for more information about this pet. Please apply online at http://texasgreatdane.org/adoption-application/   ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX.  Prospective adopters must be able to travel to San Antonio to complete the adoption process. ** Wendy is a 2-year-old Great Dane who weighs approximately 100 pounds. Wendy is a playful girl who gets along great with everyone she meets. Her ideal home would also have another large dog who enjoys playing as well. Wendy has been diagnosed with heartworm infection. Dogs acquire heartworm infections when they are bitten by a mosquito that was infected with heartworm larvae.   Dogs with heartworm infection live happy, high quality lives as long as they are given appropriate care. Heartworm infection is relatively common in the United States so we are in need of caring adopters like you that are willing to open their home to a dog with heartworm infection. We think that our heartworm dogs have just as much to offer their new adopters as any other dog and they deserve a chance at life. Adopters will receive all the necessary medications needed to complete the heartworm treatment protocol.   Please understand you are commiting to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more.)   You must be committed to housebreaking, age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization.   Her adoption fee is $350.  This includes her spay surgery, DhPPv vaccination, rabies vaccination, deworming, 6-months of Coraxis®, microchip, leash and collar, and 30-days of pet health insurance.   Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at www.saspca.org.   Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio TX 78232.  Event hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.    Additional questions may be directed to sagdinfo@aol.com.   - IMPORTANT INFORMATION -   SASPCA Homeward Bound Dog Rescue and San Antonio Great Dane Rescue are 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue groups based in San Antonio, Texas.    Our group focuses on assisting open admission shelters in South Texas where over 32,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year. Our puppies and dogs are completely vetted and live in foster homes.
