Story
Awe, check out this handsome boy who wants to share his story with us! **I am being fostered in Edmond, OK** Hello there, my name is Spags(short for Steve Spagnuolo, Defensive Coord. for the KC Chiefs)! I am a very handsome and regal 1 year old male Hovawart mix. I have a super soft and silky coat, along with beautiful jet black and tan markings. I have had quite the journey since entering this rescue. I found myself in the shelter as a stray. Unfortunately, with so many dogs coming and going I ended up getting sick. This got me put on the urgent list, and I only had about a day to find rescue otherwise I would have to be euthanized. Things got pretty scary there for a bit, but I ended up having some amazing people come and get me. Those people are my fosters! At first, it seemed like I just had kennel cough. This is like the dog version of a cold. Sadly, it got worse and a trip to the vet revealed that I had pneumonia. I had to be put on some strong antibiotics and watched very closely, but thankfully I am all healthy and better now!!! Since I am all healthy now, I figured it was about time I start looking for a family of my own! I love my fosters, but I also know that I am not meant to stay with them forever. I figure a lot of people like hearing firsthand about their new dog, so let's hear what my fosters say about me: "Spags is an amazing dog and if we had a bigger home, we would absolutely adopt him. He is such a love bug and just wants to be close to humans and be loved on. He is happiest when he is playing fetch with toys and then getting lots of love from people. He doesn't like it when people stand over him, it makes me sad because I'm sure that is fear from his old life. He has been great with his foster sister (60# ppft alum) his pug foster brother and our blind/deaf pug too. He is goofy and sweet and just wants to be right next to a human. He does act like he wants to run out the front door when we go out, so his adopter will need to take precautions to keep him from door dashing. Spags knows how to “sit”, “lay” and “give me 5”, he is an extremely intelligent dog who would do amazing with some training." If you like to travel, I would probably be a great candidate! I do great on car rides, and usually just plop right down and sleep. I also walk well on a leash. I do really well when meeting new people and am very outgoing! I will sniff them all over, and put my head in their hands. I have more of a laid back personality, but can be quite playful at times as well. I am the kind of dog that can be trusted to have free roam of the house. I have not attempted to chew on anything, and am not really a barker. I am still new to the whole toy thing, but let me tell you I LOVE them!! I have a blast playing with toys, and have also decided I love playing fetch! I am potty trained, as well as kennel trained. At night, I like to sleep on the floor in my fosters bedroom. When they are gone, I have free roam of the house. The ideal home for me would be a couple or family (maybe kids over 8 or a very dog savvy family) who likes to go for walks, or to the park, or play outside, but also like to hang out on the couch and relax. I do enjoy playing with my foster sister, but I LOVE being near any human who will pet me and love on me! If you are petting me and stop, I will use my nose to get under your hand and put it right back on my head for more pet! I love playing with the bigger dogs, and am more indifferent towards the smaller ones. I have not been around cats, so unsure how I would do with them. Probably depends on how dog savvy and nice they are. I am family with the saying "Dogs Rule, and Cats Drool" ;) I am good with both my fosters girls (8 and 6) but I do sometimes to get nervous when they make me feel trapped with closeness, so it might be better that my new home have kids 12+. Overall, I am just a very fun and sweet boy and am so excited to find my furever family! If you have fallen in love with me, you can submit an adoption app for me at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app My adoption fee is $225 and that will include my vaccinations, neuter, and micro-chip. It also includes my pneumonia treatment. I will also be current on my heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.
