Story
HUNTER Breed: Shepsky (Siberian Husky/German Shepherd) / Adoption fee is $100 / Sex: Male / Age: Approximately 2 yrs old / Weight: Approximately 65-70 pounds Hey there. My name is Hunter and I am a husky/shepherd mix. I have all the characteristics of your typical husky and shepherd. I like to dig, I like to run and play, and if you leave me alone too long, I will find ways to entertain myself. I WILL NEED EXERCISE and lots of it! Another cool thing about me is that I am attending dog training right now and learning how to be a good boy and listen. I have a good temperament, I just forget my size sometimes. So if you want to pair me with a dog of similar size, that would be pretty great, I play a bit to rough for some dogs. I like to play fetch and tug-of-war. I'm really good at those games. Look, I went from being a street dog to a shelter dog. I have adjusted well but I really am a people kind of dog. My own kin are fine and all, but I'd much rather be with you. Will you be the one to come get me? House Manners: When Hunter was housed in the kennel room he would keep a clean indoor kennel and potty outside with access to a doggy door. He is now in group housing and there are no accidents in his 10 x 10 living quarters with access to a doggy door. According to his family who had him for a short while if they slacked on giving him exercise for to long he would get destructive. A tired or busy dog is a good dog. Basic Training: Hunter knows sit, shake and down and learning new things. He needed leash work, but is he currently under going professional dog training so he should have these things down in no time he is a very smart boy. He is also crate trained. Other Dogs: Hunter has accepted and adjusted well to the other dogs he has met here which have been similar sized. But he is very mouthy with his play styles and likes to take dogs down by the neck, so he will need a companion that can handle that in stride. Cats: Hunter has a high prey drive and small animals/cats are not recommended Kids: For a time, Hunter lived with children and did very well. He will excitably jump on people so small children would not do well with him. But with his new manners he is gaining in dog training he should get this under control. Fencing: Many Northern breeds can be hard to contain. Currently Hunter is in a well secured 6 ft. chain link fence and not escaping. Hunter is a known digger and will need to be supervised when outside. You can deter the digging by keeping him active and/or giving him a designated sand pit to play in within his yard in a shady place. *The video says Jethro but it is Hunter, he is a smart handsome boy so we gave him a name to match. All of our Husky/Northern breeds require fence photos if you have a yard so we give tips on containment if needed. You can quicken your adoption process by sending us some yard pics, focusing on the fence lines and gates after you send your application. This breed typically does better with a yard but we may have some Northern breeds or mixes that would be suited for apartments etc. please just ask. Please keep in mind if you want to own a husky you need to be open to the fact that containing this dog may require you to install a hot wire system (cost approx $100) this is quite often needed to preventing digging climbing or chewing through fences. A Hot wire is typically the best route to start with for a piece of mind. Installation is simple and can be done in under 2 hours on most yards. Northern breeds are beautiful dogs but are also a challenge and demanding and can be very destructive and hard to contain when their needs are not met. Please learn a little more about the breed on our home page. Also we likely have other Huskies or Malamutes for adoption find out by visiting www.petangelsrescue.org. The adoption fee is $100. This dog has had its age appropriate Vaccinations brought up to date with Rabies shot (4 m & older), heartworm tested (4 m & older) and/or started on prevention, basic dewormer, spayed or neutered and microchipped by 24Petwatch with free registration , and also comes with 30 days of free 24Petwatch Pet Insurance .
