Story
Amano (2-3 years old) is certainly a unique looking guy who appears to be a Siamese or Snowshoe mix. His massive head, icy blue stare and one misshapen ear all add to his appeal! It's quite obvious this guy spent quite a bit of time out on the streets, but that just makes him all the more appreciative to be an indoor-only cat now. Because he's been through some rough times, he is a bit timid and nervous at first, but once he trusts you, he's a big baby and wants to be petted and have his chin scratched (he has such a quiet, soothing purr for his size). He seems to do well with other cats that are friendly, but who aren't obonxious or overwhelming (he probably would not appreciate being wrestled or played with harshly). However, Amano has a strict NO DOGS policy for his new home. Overall, this guy is a gentle giant who is learning how to be a sweet and cuddly housecat. A quiet, patient household would be ideal for him to blossom into a confident, affectionate feline.
Now, there is one more thing you should know. Amano has tested positive for FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus), but this will not prevent him from living a long, happy life. The disease can only affect felines and is rarely spread to altered, friendly FIV-negative cats. It cannot be spread by sharing litter boxes, food dishes, playing or grooming. Transmission is only possible through deep puncture wounds (think non-neutered male cats fighting over territories) - but Amano is a lover not a fighter, and is not the type to get into these types of serious scuffles with another friendly housemate. Additionally, he does not require any medicine for his condition, but since his immune system is a bit more suppressed than normal, he has the potential to get sick easier. For indoor cats, this is generally a non-issue as he will not be exposed to diseases and viruses in the safety of his home. Don't be scared by the myths people (and even some veterinarians!) spread about FIV. Take your time and do the research, and make your own decision about whether adopting an FIV cat is right for you if you have other felines at home.
Amano is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, treated for all parasites, and combo-tested negative for Leuk and positive for FIV. His adoption fee is $40. For more information, please call or text 847-773-7639 or email info.stsff@gmail.com.
