Story
Hi, I'm MaddyThe GHS Family thinks I'm the sweetest girl ever because I walk up and just lean against them- just so you know I'm there and wanting some pets. I can have a shy side, but once I get to know you I'll be your most loyal gal-pal ever. I have beautiful, expressive eyes and my slow tail wag will just melt your heart. My future family should know that while I did live with other dogs and cats in my previous home, I really like my food and don't like it when other pets come too close. I did get into a fight with my dog-friend over this, and so a home familiar with resource guarding and methods to positively manage this in a multi-pet household would be recommended (or that I be the only pet). I can sometimes be nervous of strangers, and in the previous home would bark if a stranger came in the front door. I've lived with kids before but due to my sensitive nature, the shelter would prefer to see me go to a home with mature children who are understanding that they'll need to be gentle, patient and respectful of me. The shelter is presently closed due to COVID, however if you are interested in me please send an email to adoptions@guelphhumane.ca. Thank you for considering me in your home!

Story
Greetings, I'm Candy! The GHS Family thinks I'm great because I am a playful pup who loves my squeaky toys (I'll even throw them around myself, so you don't have to!), and playing in the snow. I am undeniably as sweet as my name - and am very loving and attention seeking once I know you. My future family should know that I can be a bit timid when I first meet you so I will need patient owners willing to help build my confidence. I haven't had very many interactions with dogs, but have done well on play-dates with dogs at the shelter so could do well with a canine companion. Unfortunately I wouldn't do well with a feline or small animal friend - I find it fun to chase them, but they just don't feel the same. I would do best in a home with mature children who can understand to go slow and respect my space until I settle into my new home. To set me up for success, the shelter is requiring that I be signed up for a one-on-one behavioural consultation with a GHS pre-approved trainer prior to taking me home.If you're interested in potentially taking me home, please drop by the shelter during viewing hours. Thank you and I hope to meet you soon!

Labrador Retriever Shepherd (Unknown Type)

Female, 8 yrs 8 mos

Story
Meet Sara! As a young pup, while asleep, a child jumped on Sara and startled/hurt her. She reacted by nipping the child. Sara was then confined to a crate as she was frightened of the child and would growl when the child was near. She was at risk of euthanized and was surrendered to the rescue. In her foster home, she has an older foster brother who she loves to rough house, chase and play with. She does resource guard and that is something her foster family is working on helping her with. She has grown into a lovely young lady who likes to be held and cuddled and her foster family is regularly reinforcing positive touch. She is nervous of strangers and will growl, but warms up if left to make the first move. She was not socialized as a young pup and is learning leash manners, to play cooperatively, how to 'slow' down with everything, and to be gentle. She would be best in a home with no children under 12 years. She will require a patient family, that will take the time to train her and understand her fear of strangers. Sara will come up to date on her vaccinations, micro chipped and is spayed. Adoption fee $375.00 Please fill out an application for Sara at www.oxfordcountyanimalrescue.com

Story
Justice is a pretty girl with lots of energy. She loves outside playtime and really wants you to be out there with her. She also LOVES toys, but they will need to be very strong ones as she can destroy those less robust. Justice is a "person" dog, great with people but not fond of either dogs or cats, so she will be best as the only pet of the household. She needs a strong owner who knows how to set appropriate boundaries, and she will be great for long walks and hikes with the right person. We are recommending homes with older children, just because of her size and energy.
