Story
NOW FOSTERING LOCAL IN NEW ENGLAND!Hi everyone, my name is Shirley and my foster mommy wants me to introduce myself to you all in hopes of finding my perfect forever home. I am about 18 weeks old, 7-8 lbs and a Chihuahua/ Pom mix, though foster mommy says I look more like a mini pin mix. She also tells me how stubborn I can be and that I am lucky I am so cute, hey, must be the Chihuahua in me. I am a little shy and fearful of new people and new surroundings. I am still just a baby and need slow introductions as I scare easily and can be a bit skittish. I do warm up to people pretty quickly- it only took foster mommy one day to gain my trust- but I need you to understand that it must be on my own terms and once I know you are not going to hurt me I will become your best buddy and your shadow. I am doing well with housetraining and only had a few potty accidents in the house. I will need someone to keep working with me on this so that I can master this housetraining stuff. I love to play with my foster siblings, just as much as I love to cuddle with them. We run around, and cuddle together once we are tired. I am dog friendly but need slow introductions as well because I get a little scared at first. My foster mommy does not know how I am with cats or children. I may be small, but I know what I want and I hope you can be that perfect family for me. Here are some of the things that would make you my perfect match: 1- Must have small friendly, confident and active canine sibling for me to play with. I love playing and running around with my foster siblings, so a dog around my size or slightly bigger would be ideal. I am not a fan of large dogs. I also look up to my foster siblings and feel confident when they are around. I would love to have a canine sibling to run around and be my forever buddy.2- I will not sleep in a crate. I like to cuddle with my human and sleep right next to them all night. I will sleep all night, but I need to be with you and absolutely must cuddle with you all night. If you don’t like a dog that likes to cuddle than I am not the dog for you.3- Preferably no small children because I am a little skittish at first and may be a flight risk.4- Must buy me many toys. I love chewing and carrying toys around. Foster mommy says I am a bit of a toy hoarder and always have toys with me.5- Must be patient and willing to provide me with proper exercise and training. Someone who works from home or is home a lot is ideal.6- Must have a fenced in backyard so that I can explore and go potty on my own terms. Foster mommy is slowly introducing me to leashes and walking outside. However, I will not go potty when I am on a leash or during a walk. Everything is new to me and I am scared while on walks. I am working on this and I know I will get better but the perfect home for me would have a fenced in yard so I don’t have to worry about walks and going potty on a leash- at least not now. See? I told you I know what I want, but above all what I really want is someone willing to love me and care for me for the rest of my life. I promise I will love you every single day. If you think you are my perfect match please apply and talk to foster mommy. Who knows, maybe you are the perfect family for me. The number of individual inquiries is overwhelming and we are finding it difficult to respond to each one. We cannot guarantee you will receive a timely response.Paws New England is a rescue, not a shelter, and as such we do not have our dogs housed in one location - they are in foster homes both in New England and in our southern foster homes.   If you're interested in a specific dog, please complete a short online application and you will receive a reply within 48 hours so you can ask questions. At present, if a dog is listed on our website, the dog is considered still available HOWEVER, may have applications that have come in before yours but it's still too early to know if any are a good match; therefore we encourage you to apply.NOTICE WITH REGARD TO LOCATION OF DOGS:  Please note: Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a brick and mortar building to house the dogs we rescue. We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. Dogs listed with Paws New England typically reside in various locations throughout the south (primarily Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas) and New England (not necessarily in the state of Rhode Island). You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not.Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $150.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. This fee is included in the adoption donation.Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your dog will help others in need. All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history.Paws New England abides by the dog importation regulations set forth in the states of MA, CT, NH and RI.

Story
Age: 1- 2 Years (as of 10/1/19) Weight: 13 lbs (as of 10/1/19) Location: RI    This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Russell is a little dog with a big personality! He appears to be a Mini Pinscher and Beagle mix and the sweetest little guy who's full of energy and looking for his forever home. When meeting new people, they will need to go slow and don’t reach for him too quickly. An adopter should go slow, work on socialization, give him plenty of exercise, and provide training and structure as he transitions from life in a shelter to life in a forever home. He has shown some minor food and human aggression with other dogs and thus would do best as the only dog in an adult only household. Potential adopters would need to keep this in mind if there are children, or visiting children, in the household. He can get a little excited especially with new dogs and tends to bark during play. Russell is almost house trained, but does tend to mark initially in a new environment. His current foster family is working with him on this behavior. He does pretty well on the leash - he pulls just a little - and has completed crate training.  Russell is a sweet, energetic, happy boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family! Adoption Fee: $585 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:  www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Story
Age: 6 Years Weight: 19 lbs (as of 9/23/19) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.   Blaze is a sweet, sensitive boy who loves to nest under the covers!  Blaze also loves to lounge in the sunshine. He hasn't always had the most reliable home life. He's now in foster care with a regular routine and is impressing us all with how quickly he has picked up on the routine and started to trust his household. He's solidly house trained, but will mark occasionally in a new environment. He's mostly quiet, but does like to vocalize when he wants something or is unsure about situations. He'll bark at ambient noises, but has acclimated very quickly to the background noises in his apartment foster home.   Blaze has shown some mild separation anxiety (barking and whining), but is learning to work through this and seems to be getting better. The presence of other dogs in the home seems to help, though he seems most comfortable co-existing with other dogs rather than directly interacting with them. He doesn't care for hyper dogs, puppies, or energetic adults - but he does have a playful side to him: He'll play with some toys, tossing them to himself, and also likes to play fetch. He likes to "talk" when he's playing - play growling and grunting. He's not fond of being handled roughly or by people he doesn't intimately trust, so he's learning the "touch" game and doing well with it. He can get a little frustrated with learning new skills at first, but with gentle perseverance and encouragement he can learn new tricks. It helps that he's very food motivated and picks up solidly on consistent repetition.   Blaze will flourish in a home with patience, TLC, time, and an adopter who's committed to continuing to expose him in small increments to positive "field trip" experiences. He LOVES to go on walks! He's not comfortable being picked up, nor having his ears or underside area petted too much. He may take some days to trust and warm up to new people, and the slower you go, the faster he will trust you. He's been around a five-year old boy and did well with him, but the little boy was not overbearing or hyper. Blaze will bark when he hears a strange noise, or when someone new comes to the door or enters the house. He'll also bark when he's on leash and approached by a stranger who enters into his personal 5 feet of space. This reactiviy has improved significantly since in foster care, but his adoptive home will need to continue to work with him on this and also always advocate for his personal space. Strangers should not be allowed to handle, pet or hover over him, as these activities make him very uncomfortable, but he can be very affectionate and loving with his people on his own terms. He would do best in a mature home without much foot traffic and minimal visitors.   This little guy is so full of love and full of laughs! Are you looking for a funny little sidekick to bring daily smiles and cuddles into your life? If so - and you are willing to take things slow - Blaze could be just who you're looking for! Fill out an application today and his people will get right back to you!   Adoption Fee: $585 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.
