** WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF ONTARIO ** THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN ADOPTING A RESCUE DOG - PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE FEED TO ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS **BASIC INQUIRIES ASKING QUESTIONS THAT ARE PROVIDED WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. ** WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE EXISTING PETS/ FAMILY/ PAYING JOBS. OUR TIME IS IN SHORT SUPPLY AND WE APPRECIATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING ********************************************************************************************** *** HOW IT WORKS - ADOPTION INFORMATION **** ***ONLY RECEIVED & APPROVED APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR A VIEWING..-**No acceptions ** Do not ask to pop by to view a dog - it will be declined. Our dogs are in various locations in foster homes. Viewings are arranged with volunteers ,around rescue work, reg jobs and family and only offered to an approved app to ensure its a possible fit for the dog and applicant and to not waste anyone's time. All info on adoption procress/ policies can be accessed at www.adoptapet,lucknow.on.ca **.Applications http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/applications.html--This is a MS Word copy of our application. It can be completed, saved and emailed back to the rescue at petrescue@hurontel.on.ca . 1. We require a fully filled app to be considered as a possible home 2. Only the approved app will be permitted a viewing with the pet ** in the foster home 3. ALL family members MUST meet the dog ** in the foster home** . 4. Any existing pets MUST attend the meet/ greet with the dog ** at the foster home ** . 5. A home visit must be completed as part of the adoption process after the initial viewing by a rescue representative. This is not a replacement of the meet/ greet at the Foster home. 6. We do not adopt outside of ONTARIO . 7. We do not deliver dogs. WHERE IS THIS DOG NOW ?- This pet is currently located in foster care so we can learn about their needs **ALL ABOUT SAILOR ** PET INFO: The Animal's name: Sailor Breed of animal: Silver Toy Poodle Date of Birth:We were told 6 yrs however Doc Hawkins says they are closer to 10 years Or how long you have had him: 4-5 months Sex: Spayed or neutered: Yes Color: Silver Coat length: Toy Poodle short hair Description of markings: none Weight: not sure but a healthy weight for sure Height: 10-12 inches high Are the ears floppy or straight? floppy Energy level ? Low energy Any physical special needs ?- blind- deaf- 3 limbs etc? None Any medical special needs ? None HOUSE INFO: Is this animal a house pet? Yes Is the animal house-trained? somewhat Does the animal ever have house-training issues? Sailor has a background of neglect and abuse. He was rescued in Montreal by my husband. He has come a long way in the short time we've had him. How do you handle house-training errors? We simply say no and take him outside to pee. We pet him and praise his going to the washroom outside. Is the animal crate trained? I would think so since he uses a 10X10 foot pen How is the pet contained if not crated ? 10X10 foot pen Does the animal chew or scratch household items? No Does it get into the garbage? No   YARD INFO: Does the animal dig holes? No Does it try and get over or under fences? No Is the pet protective of fence space? No Is the pet an excessive barker ? or just alerting to things?No EXPOSURE INFO: What ages of children was it living with? Teenagers at previous home No children here (Grandchildren would visit ages 8 and 10) - If none- has the pet had exposure to kids? Ages? Ages 8 and 10 And  Reaction ? Sailor was fine however we would always be there...I think Sailor would do best with adults only as he shows a lil fear. How does the pet react to kids at a distance/ on leash ? I have never had him on a leash Reaction ? Not sure we live in the country and he is able to roam with me freely. He simply follows where I go Exposure to strangers? reaction on walks or at the door/ in home ? Reaction good  Is it good with cats? reaction?- on/off leash ? Reaction? There are feral cats sometimes cross property and he was good Is it good with dogs? Sizes/ reaction?- on/ off leash? off Reaction? Loves smaller dogs Is this dog used to sharing its space / toys with other pets/ dogs if visiting etc? Reaction ? Sailor only shares space with Soldier. Sailor does not play with toys much...just his ball -If yes… how does he/she react ? Does it chase after cars, or horses and buggies or bikes- skateboards or people? No a neighbors horse and donkey came here and he barked but that was it...he was just alerting us Does the dog ride well in the car? Yes -if no what are the pets struggles ?  Has it been exposed to livestock or horses? Not here ( just once see above   OBEDIENCE / TRAINING : Does the dog play games? like to play with ball Has this pet had any obedience training? None If yes -Where ? and trainer info if we may contact them for additional feedback/ info ? What commands does it know? No, wait, come, stay, be nice Does it walk well on leash? Or pull etc? No leash I have included a harness with his belongings What walking tools do you use to walk your dog -{ flat collar, gentle leader, martindale, choke collar, Pinch collar, Harness } We used no restraints like leashes etc. He was allowed to walk freely outside on trails here PERSONALITY/ BEHAVIOURS/ :  ** Please be detailed in these questions. No Blanket answers of “Yes/ Sometimes” .We need detailed info to know how best if rescue can help and what the pets needs are for re-training etc .Without this we can not consider , possibly approve or place any dog into foster care” **   Would you say your pet is a stable, well mannered, pet ? Sailor has come a long way since being here. My husband took him out of a terrible situation where he was ill fed and ungroomed and abused. Sailor was frightened of hands and men and my husband worked closely with him. Sailor does not fear hands anymore or men any more He isn't frightened and does not cower near as much anymore. -or a bit rough around the edges  :needing additional basic training needs? More love pets and socialization and more basic commands with rewards would help   Personality/ reaction- with those it knows? Tail wags and he's happy with interaction Personality/ reaction- with strangers ? OK Has the animal ever shown/ possession/ aggression/ reactivity to anyone or anything? Sailor does not like to be groomed in his private area however I think this will change now that Doc Hawkins found one of his testes in his leg. He was neutered and I believe this problem was solved with neutering. Has the animal ever bitten in the past? Tried to bite me while grooming private area in the past. -if yes please explain in good detail situation/ trigger/ outcome, what was the pets reaction/ body signals before the incident ? .I just provided assurance and petting and hugs and did a little at a time. He was scared. He was fine with my assurances   Are there any behavioral problems? If yes what are they ? Urination at times off the pad indoors. Using a play yard would benefit him. We used one in the main area of house when accidents occur. Is there any separation issues? No but I wonder what separation would be like without Soldier. They are closely bonded through the abuses of previous home Are there any fears? Sailor showed fear when he first came here. He was alerted to everything. He was always waiting for something to happen. He was scared and cowered a lot close to Soldier. -to what and how does the pet react? Are there any possession issues with food/ toys/ space towards people/ kids or other pets ? Yes protective of food and that’s probably because he was starved when he came here. I always have food available for him. He receives a hot meal every night kibble mixed with homemade stew. He has scrambled eggs and liver on weekend mornings.   ROUTINE: Where is the animal kept during the day? In the house Where is it kept at night? In a 10X10 foot pen How long is this animal generally left alone in a day? About 3-4 hrs Is it ever kept outside, and if so, for how long? No Is it used to being chained or kenneled or running free? Run free and kenneled in a 10X10 foot pen Have you ever boarded the animal or had a pet sitter out of your home environment? Family comes here when I need them to What is the animal being fed? Iams healthy naturals (farm raised chicken and barely) Homemade stew without onions. Scrambled eggs and liver on weekend mornings Is it free fed? Yes How much per day? 2 cups per day I feed every morning and a hot meal at night and kibble is available all day and treaties Is it used to bottled water? No Please provide this pets current routine fed by 8 AM trail run and then he just follows me around during the day We go on approximately 6-8 walks a day. Fed by 6:30
