He'd recently been found by Good Samaritan, and was just beginning his road to recovery. You see, the Good Sam took Cocoa immediately to his vet after finding him one cold, rainy evening outside his work place. The vet trimmed his curled nails, treated him for an infestation of fleas, and gave him a prescription for eye drops. He was started on two different antibiotics, one for his skin; the other for his mouth. He was also scanned for a microchip, which led them to his human. The human who no longer wanted her beloved 15 year old blind dog. Even after offers of vetting assistance and food donations, the answer was still no. Unfortunately, the man who found Cocoa was unable to keep him, and we were contacted. With the assistance of Raising Aid for Dogs at Risk, we were able to accept Cocoa into our rescue. He is in foster care in Virginia and we continue to work closely with our vet to provide the best care possible. Unfortunately, with the severity of his heart condition, Cocoa will not be a candidate for some much needed dental work and removal of a large growth on his prostate. But, we are treating the infection in his mouth & have started him on medication for his heart. Cocoa is now feeling his best and looking for his special furever home! He paws at the door when he needs to potty and LOVES to play with his foster mom.
