Hello! This is Zoey. She is a very loving girl who was dumped out near my house. We have 5 pets already so we could not provide her with a permanent home. Zoey spent the next 3 months in the shelter and her anxiety became worse each day and she started to drop weight from pacing her enclosure. We thought she had found a new furever home but when Zoey gets startled, she can exhibit some defensive barking and lunging. Her former adopter has a demanding job and cannot provide the much needed socialization to allow Zoey to overcome her anxiety. Zoey also reacts to some other dogs at first but could do well with other dogs if provided the proper introduction. She does not do well with small children. She is eager to learn so training classes would go far. She is about 2 years old. Her current home is willing to foster Zoey for another month but time is running out. The shelter has indicated that if she is returned to them, she would be recommended for euthanasia

"There's some good in the world, Mr. Frodo, and that's worth fighting for." We couldn't agree more, Samwise! Despite Sam's tough times, he's still eager to see the good in you - he believes you'll be a great forever home! Samwise is an adorable dachshund/Mountain cur mix who weighs 25 pounds. He has stumpy legs, a long body, and a worried look on his face. He's worried because he lost his home in Arkansas and he's not sure why he's here in the big city. What Sam doesn't know is that we're going to find him the perfect home - way more the Shire than Mount Doom! Samwise needs a patient, gentle household to help him feel safe again and come out of his shell. He is required to go to a home that already has a dog. The good news is that he doesn't have a mean bone in his body - Sam is all gentleness and worry all the time! So if you can be Sam's Light of Elendil and light the way to his happy home, he'd appreciate it!Samwise is in a temporary foster home. Please submit an application at chicagocaninerescue.org to meet him!

5 years ago my ex partner and I adopted Chief from a shelter in Chicago. When we split ways it was decided that I would not be living with the dog anymore. It has come about that my ex partner is moving and cannot take Chief with him. I have welcomed my old buddy back into my home but with such a small condo it is not working or with my other dog whisky. It breaks my heart to rehome him once more, but it is what is best for my baby boy. Chief needs an individual or family who will walk him and help him lose the weight he gained over the years. He is such a loving boy who wants to lay his head in your lap when your doing just about anything. Chief loves his toys and wants to find a family or individual who will play with him and have lots of time with him. His old owner didn’t have lots of time to spend so he is wishing to be cared for just an little bit more.
