-Declan is a 1yr old Chocolate Newfoundland, at his last weigh-in he was 98lbs & will continue to grow & bulk up. He is neutered, HW negative, current on all vaccines & is microchipped.
-Due to going most of his young life without solid structure, Declan has some requirements for his forever home.
-Declan has been Great with every human he has met. When 1st meeting someone, he's gotten better with keeping all 4 paws on the ground. He is a bouncy, happy guy, & is continuously working on manners. Due to his size & excitability, a home with kids 12+ is required.
-Declan is currently in a foster home with other dogs. His time with them has been 100% supervised. He is large, jumps, wants to play, & doesn't take cues from other dogs. Unfortunately because of his behavior with them, almost every dog that encounters Declan, decides they don't like him (even very socialized & well-rounded dogs.) His foster mom is working diligently with him on better manners... but because of this, he will need a specific home. One where he will be the only fur child, OR a home with a young, socialized, large breed dog that may possess some of the same mannerisms & traits as he does (another Newfie, St. Bernard, etc.) If a potential adopter with a current dog would like to meet/adopt Declan, there will be a process of at Least 2+ meets between Declan, the family & current resident dog before a decision is made. It should also be noted that Declan has shown some guarding tendencies with toys around other dogs, as well as his food.
-He is crate trained & housebroken. He knows how to sit, lay down, & is working hard at coming when called every time. He is fine with humans around his food & takes treats gently.
-This breed is not for everyone. We would LOVE for Declan to land a home with someone who has Newfie experience. He will need routine brushing & grooming. He is strong, & is working on leash manners (he actually isn't terrible on lead)... but, to best build respect & structure with his adopter(s) we are requiring that Declan enroll in at least 1 training class after adoption. Declan is a sweetheart, he is just a big, goofy "puppy" in a near-100lb body. He enjoys pets from his foster parents & will rub his face on them like a cat.
