Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Webster DOB: 9/26/2018 Weight: 17 lbs Adoption Fee: 400.00 Hey everyone! My name is Webster. I was picked up off the streets of Houston, Texas as a stray pup. I must have been fending for myself for a while because I got this thing called heartworm. So, I am heartworm positive right now, but please do not let that deter you! I will be treated for it, and will be completely healthy very soon. I'm naturally a really shy dog, so I'm a bit skittish right now. I came out of the shelter terrified, but I am slowly opening up and feeling safer and happier in my foster home. I learn to trust and love, but it may take just a little time. I am a very sweet dog though once I warm up. I do well on a leash, and I like spending my days curled up in my crate with a warm blankey, or hanging outside in the yard soaking in the sunshine. I live with other dogs, but don't have much interest in them. If you're looking for a play companion for your dog, I'm probably not the man for you. If you're looking for a relaxing companion to hang out with and enjoy some Netflix after the end of a long day.. THAT I'm the guy for! I haven't met cats yet, so I'm not sure how I'd feel with a feline friend in the house. I did meet some children though, and no offence to them, but I wanted absolutely nothing to do with them. Kids, or really anyone that is fast and invades my space, I would prefer to not be around. I would say that my perfect home would be calm, have a routine, and have my adult humans be willing to give me the time and space I need to blossom. Since Webster is heartworm positive he will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton. Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos. Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
