Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Name: Toby Jacob  DOB: 03/29/2006 Weight:17lb Adoption Fee: $125 Toby Jacob AKA Toby joined Ruff Start Rescue after his forever owner passed away unexpectedly and the family was unable to afford his medical needs. He is affectionately known in his foster home as Toby Shark as well. He received that nick-name because when he first joined their home, he would walked around the house and make funny gremlin noises and would look up at them and bark with his teeth hanging out from his under bite. Toby is a super laid back gentleman and enjoys being with his humans and foster brothers all the time. Toby LOVES to eat, but does have skin allergies and requires a grain free dog food. He prefers a Raw Diet or wet dog food over dry kibble. He will play with stuffed animal toys from time to time, and loves playing tug-a-war with his foster mom when he gets in the playing mood. Most of his day though is spent resting (snoring) and following his foster mom and companion foster brother (Shih-Tzu) around the house or at the grooming salon that his foster mom works at. Toby does have separation anxiety and will need a home where he will either have someone home with him most of the time or will be able to join his family to work every day. Toby suffered from severe dry eye and extreme ear infections in both ears for an extended amount of time before joining Ruff Start. He ended up having his ear canal removed in his right ear and also gets multiple eye medication in both eyes twice a day now to help with his dry eye. Due to the severity of his ear infection, his facial nerve on that side of his face was damaged in surgery and he can no longer blink his right eye and his jowls are droopy in that side of his face. He does receive eye medications to help keep his eye healthy. Toby is mostly blind and deaf. He will need a one level home so that he will not fall down any stairs. Toby is house trained and enjoys strolling around the yard in the warm weather. He does need frequent potty breaks just because he has a harder time holding his potty because of his age. Toby grew up with multiple other large and small dogs and has interacted with cats in the past. In his foster home, Toby actually has a little shih-tzu that he uses a lot as his seeing-eye companion. He follows him around to make sure he is not going to bump into anything as well as his friend keeps in away from wondering off in the yard. He may do best in a new home that has another small laid back dog that he can bond with. Toby is good with children, but will need kids that understand not to be in dogs faces and not to be over bearing. Toby is all up to date on all his main vaccines, is neutered and heartworm negative. However, Toby has tested positive and has been treated for Lyme’s disease. Lyme’s disease can cause joint stiffness and minor lameness from time to time, his foster home gives him a daily joint supplement to help prevent this as well as to help with any arthritis he may have. Toby also has what is commonly called "Old Dog Lung" which is calcium build up in his lungs. It causes him to have difficultly breathing from time to time and may require further medical intervention in the future. Toby’s Needs -          Eye ointment in the AM and PM -          Eye Lubricant in right eye 4-6 times a day (as needed) -          Companion Animal -          Owner who is home most of the time or can bring him to work for frequent potty break and separation anxiety -          Frequent medicated baths for skin allergies -          No Stairs -          Grain free dog food An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. Once we receive your application, a placement coordinator will be in contact with you as soon as possible. Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! Toby Jacob qualifies for the Seniors for Seniors program. With this program if a senior adopts Toby then the price will be lowered to $65 All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept. Story
Hi there, I’m Lily Ann! They say I’m a chihuahua mix. Mixed with what? We don’t know, but something adorable! My foster mom says I’m a confident little girl. I like to let everyone know what I think, especially when it’s supper time. I like to spend my days napping, playing with toys in the evening, and then sleeping with foster mom on her bed at night. I also don’t mind being in a crate if I have to. I’m house training, so foster mom lets me have run of the house while she’s working. I just hang out with the other dog here and we get along great. I do like to tell the other dog that I’m the boss, but she just ignores me and that’s okay. I got to meet a cat recently and that was super interesting. I just wanted to know what that crazy thing was. So, I guess you could say I get along with cats. I’m kind of a little peanut, so my best family match might be with adults or with a family with kids over 7. I love people, but I’m not quite ready to be a super cuddler. I’ll be with you wherever you are, but I’m an independent kind of gal and I’m okay with some space. At least until I get to know you. Lily Ann is estimated to be 4 years old and 9 lbs. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed. All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative. Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.
