Story
Hi my name is Peaches. I came to Almost Home when my owners could no longer keep me. I am around 8 years old and I am a Pointer mix. I am said to be good with dogs, cats, and kids. I am very laid back and sweet. I am a runner and would do best with a fenced in yard.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This picture of Jim is a rare one, indeed.    He is not often nearly that quiet.   He is a young English Pointer, a breed known for their high energy.  He is a beautiful dog, but probably not a good choice for a family with small children.   We were told the home he came from gave him up  for that reason.   He was meant to be a pet in that home, not a working hunting dog.   We also were told that the reason he was not in a home that chose him for hunting is that at 9 months of age  the breeder determined him to be afraid of loud noises.English Pointers are high energy dogs who make great companions for jogging and for country living.  They have too much energy to be shut up in a small apartment all day.  They need daily exercise to work off the high energy levels.   While they will bark when someone they are unfamiliar with approaches their home generally they are not watchdogs.   They are very intelligent (and loyal) dogs. Jim is going to go to school next week to build on that intelligence at the Iowa Medical Classification Center Correctional Facility in Coralville.  He has not been given much opportunity to learn social skills in the past and this will be his big chance to pick up ideas like no counter surfing.  He is so athletic that he is almost as agile on only his back feet as he is on all four feet.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
Evelyn was a feral dog that was trapped in Stephen's State Forest along with 16 other feral dogs. The "Forest Dogs" are all learning to trust people. They have never been pet by a human prior to their capture or heard everyday sounds like the hum of a refrigerator, the tumbling of a dryer, or even the flush of a toilet. Everything is new to them. They require fenced yards because they are still learning to walk on leashes. We won't sugarcoat this...they are projects! If you have patience and a huge capacity to nurture and the ability to teach, please think about adopting or fostering one of these dogs. I can't begin to describe the joy you will feel watching dogs like these progress into happy, confident dogs. It is truly amazing to see the first tail wag, the first playful act with a toy, the first lick on your hand, and all of the little milestones that will touch your heart in a huge way. Please consider showing Evelyn what a loving home is. Thank you!
